2011 ranger crew 500efi will not run!

Do we have any Polaris mechanics here? It will start and run but it feels like it is stalling out when you it the gas... It acts like it is running out of gas. If you start up a hill or down a hill it stalls completely out and dies. Then it takes a while to start it. It doesn't just do it only on hills it does it on level ground too. It also sounds like it is backfiring inside the airbox. Even when it's running it doesn't have the power that it is spose to have... It's very sluggish. It acts like it's flooding out or running out of gas. Nothing is flashing on the gauge cluster... No check engine light on. I did get some water in the airbox the last time I rode it... The water did make it into the oil but it wasn't alot. I've drained the oil many times.... Cleaned the air box and filter. Please help!

I don't think so... I didnt run it in deep water... I splash some water into the air intake tube on the front of the bike and got sucked into the air box. I'm going to try some heat or alcohol or something in the gas to see if that will clean it up.

I may also be tempted to siphon/drain as much of the gas in the tank as posible to give the feul treatment a better chance to succeed...while it may sound off the wall, you could also replace the plug, seems like we have had a lot of sparkplug issues lately!
    Cheers!

I filled my intake tube from hitting water to fast and it went in under the hood also on my Ranger 400. It's a carb, but it would not run at all.

When I took the air filter out it ran fine. WHen i pput it back on it wouldn't. Come to find out there was water in the intake tube. Since it is so long and lays flat we had to stand the Ranger up on the rear bumper vertically and let it drain, then it ran fine.

Did you take the prefilter out from under the hood at the intake tube opening?

I think the shape of the hood forces water to roll over top and into the back of the intake tube.

The difference between genius and stupidity is genius knows it's limitations.

I disconnected all that and built a snorkel set up for it. But that is how the original problem started... All that water was in that tube and when I started up a hill all of it ran into my air box and into the motor. Now it is still acting like water is in it.. It keeps stalling out... It will run for a few mins the act like it's running out of gas.

I may go ahead and get a new plug and air filter to see if that helps.

Before you do anything else, go get a new sparkplug. It sounds exactly like what mine did and I remembered reading advice from someone else on this forum a while back and changed the plug. Problem solved!!!

Wife was using it doing yard work in the morning and it was running fine. She started it about noon and it would cough, spit ,sputter, and fart. It had no power and would backfire. Told her to shut it off 'til fixed. A $2.45 plug was a cheap fix. I now have 2 spares at home.
