LOL, my dyslexia kicked in on the title......Do Yourself It.......GAH!
After a lot of procrastination, I decided to go ahead and make my own snorkel kit. I looked a lot at the aftermarket (Highlifter, SnorkelyourATV) and didn't really see a good solution with having a back window. I know that Highlifter works with a window but thought I could build it a little cheaper.
Here's a couple of pics below but I've made a little more progress (bed cut and on, window back in). I still need to get the tube for the clutch exhaust and put that on, other than that, it's done. I have to pat myself on the back though, without any plans, I went to home depot and got 95% of what I needed on the first trip, not bad for the first time doing this. In all, I'll have around $125 in parts for the kit. I'll add some more pics when I get the clutch exhaust run.
Man that looks very nice you do good work! I'd say it's safe to say others will follow your lead on this on mod, if you don't mind post up a parts list when she's all done.
I can do that, some of it would be custom cut lengths of tube between joints depending on the user. I didn't have my window in when I did all of the fitting so it tips out a bit with it installed. I used a few rubber pieces too so the cost would go down if someone wanted to use pvc instead. I chose the rubber so I could get the extra deflection needed to make sure everything would like up right.
I'll be home around 6:30, I should have it done by then if you want to stop by.
How are you likin' those Inlaws and wheel setup? Oh.....and that lift? :-D
Nice work. I will make a suggestion on your belt exhaust, try to get it as far above that exhaust heat shield as possible. Mine gets really hot and if it's touching, it will melt the PVC. I've checked mine with the engine hot, and the PVC actually gets soft from the heat.
My heat shield went missing...thought my machine was on fire last weekend!! The factory had the insulation tucked under the plastic and everything was melting down on the exhaust. I tweaked the insulation and now everything seems fine
Brian, How did you attach the belt intake to the pvc? The stock rubber piece is oval on my unit (14 900 Crew), was yours the same and you replaced it below that?
If you're referring to the boot pointed out by the red arrows, I used a reducer, (3" to 2" I believe). From there I used an angled elbow (30 degree?) to get the tube parallel to the rig before throwing in a 90 degree to start the run up.
It's been awhile so I'm trying to remember how I did it. lol
Yeah, I think what I did was replace that section with a piece of rubber connector that had the flanged openings on either end. That allowed for a good seal on the pvc with hose clamps while being able to conform to the opening itself.
That's nice. When you put your parts list up, let us know your total cost.
