    Gas leaking from cap

I've got an 05 Ranger and ended up ditching the junk stocker gas cap and gauge since I usually cross threaded it; this was years ago; I've been using a regular cap for several years but had to gorilla torque it a bit but just the past couple of months it started leaking from around it too; hate the smell of gas everywhere when going deer huntin; looked at the part sticky listed on here and saw where there is a Snapper cross reference cap and picked up one of those; it goes on easily but still leaks gas; I wonder if my continued gorilla torquing on the assorted caps have left the neck of the tank out of round; the bottom aspect of it looks a little funny; it appears a new tank is in the neighborhood of $100; any body got a listing of another type of tank or any further ideas? Thanks

Make sure that the rubber gasket isn't missing from the cap. A new tank will cost you a lot more than $100.

Jerry that was my first thought, either it was missing or possibly needed replacing.

I guess I'll blame it on too much gorilla torquing from the previous caps; found a tank from powersportswharehouse for $101.50; looks like my best route to go

Wow, that's a very good deal on a tank. I've never seen them anywhere near that cheap. Good find!

any chance there's enough room to double up the gas cap rubber gaskets? might give enough cushion to seal up whatever's leaking.

    leaking gas

How about a micro fracture inside the male threads on the tank itself
