    1000 review?

For the guys that have a new 1000 could somebody please post a quick review of this new machine. I have 2014 900 and I'm wondering if i should upgrade. I like my machine now, but I'm curious if the new 1000 is better. The complaints i have now are the lack of engine braking, squealing belt when slowing down and the 4 wheel drive is slow reacting and noisy. My machine is a death trap driving on the frozen roads of northern Minnesota. By the time the front wheels engage i'm fish tailing all over the place and that can be scary at 30mph. Have any of these areas been addressed on the new 1000? Thanks for your replies.

The 2017 1000, is not much different than your current 900, it is not better, it's just newer.
The units are basically the same.
The extra 20 hp is the biggest difference, but you can get that with a RVS tune on your 14', for about $500.

Engine braking can be added to your current unit.
And you can replace the front gear case with the 3.08:1 gear ratio, or it can be added to your current gear case.
New front gear case apprx $1000, gear change apprx $500.

I had plans of purchaseing a 2017' 1000, but after going through the parts diagrams I decided to pass.
A completely redesigned Ranger is coming, it could be a mid year introduction in 2017, or we will definitely see one in August/September 2017.

Greg has been saying there is a new Ranger coming for almost 2 years. Eventually he'll be right.

    I was right, wasn't I?
I told you the 1000 was coming in 17', and I'm telling you a redesigned Ranger is just around the corner.

Eventually I'll be correct, your right, but that's funny.

I am not disagreeing with you. It's probably time for a refresh. But the age of foundational changes are coming to an end. Meet Agile Development. Originating in the software development world, Agile philosophies are becoming fairly standard, even in the manufacturing space. Agile basically says to evolve a platform incrementally or iteratively and release often.
I could be wrong (I usually am!) but given the depth and breadth of the platform, there is no reason to be transformative. Polaris will evolve the platform they created with the 900 year over year and not develop and entirely new platform.

Note the word " probably", about the current Ranger design.
I will say, that with the introduction of the 1000 engine, I thought Polaris would change the current design, they did not.

I do agree that they will evolve the platform they currently have.
But hopefully we will see some improvements in the coming years.

Remember the old 240Z. I do. Simple, agile and no bells and whistles. Remember the early Miata's. Yup, me to. Simple, agile and no bells and whistles.
The 240's (read 300Z's) evolved into a gadget car with more stuffing than a Christmas turkey. The Miata's are headed the same direction.
I guess what I'm saying is give me a reasonably priced UTV. No bells, no whistles. Just something that works. Keep whatever you're going to charge me for an additional 5-10hp which would only be used in a drag race and with that money... give me something really functional like maybe snorkels or a beefier suspension or driveline.
EDIT: Or Zerk fittings and real bushings, not pieces of crap plastic! We need a whole lot more of those.

The '17 1000 is 'better' in the sense that it has more power. But that's not going to help with your fishtailing on frozen roads, and may actually be a detriment. Spend your money on increasing your traction with better winter tires or tracks.
