I'm A new member and would like to thank those who helped Polaris reach the decision to stand behind the RZR dirt injestion problem.
I picked up my RZR June 11, 2008 and after 450 miles I was using oil and It would not idle. I've owned two Polaris ATV's and and check my air filter after each ride. My rides are in Upper Michigan on old rail grades and are VERY DUSTY. I switched to oiled foam UNI filters but it was too late.
My dealer did'nt know about the new Polaris filter or Polaris's commitment to repair RZRs that were damaged by dirt. Initially I was suppose to have paid for part of the repairs, but after informing my dealer of your site and the commitment Polaris made, they submitted entire bill and Its being covered 100%. They are even installing the new filter element.
Thanks again, without this site It would of cost me! |

I talked to the service manager at my dealer and he knows nothing about this and said the only RZR's that have a service bulletin about the air intake upgrade were built in 07'. Which doesn't help me mine was made in 03/08. So I need to take it to them and let them "check to see why dust is getting into the intake tube/ motor" and then they will have a record of the problem effecting my RZR. |

I would say , take it to your dealer and have them do a compression check (whether you pay for it or not), and make sure it's documented. I'm in a similar situation. Only have 400+ miles on it, and never had an issue until the warranty was expired. My guess is Polaris will do more for the ones with documented issues.
I will say I am not burning oil, yet, and have only had 1 instance where a considerable amount of dust was ingested. Mine was an issue with the boot. Not sure how it happened, I was very meticulous in sealing my intake up from the start.
Now I'm just paranoid. Checking after very short rides, sticking lint less cleaning rags in the throttle body tube, even if I don't see visible dust.
I think the bigger filter (less velocity passing through the filter), and the throttle body boot, will address my issues. Hopefully, it hasn't been damaged. I intend on checking the compression myself, and if I find a problem I will take it to the dealer. _________________ Brian

| Got my RZR back Friday. The new filter is on back order as well as A new rubber tube (must go between engine and air filter housing?). Had A Dirty Dawg intake with pre filters installed and removed my full windshield and top cover. Also oiled the heck out of my UNI foam air filter. Going for ride Sunday. |

i had them to do a compression test when i first found dust in my throtle tube which was 7 months ago or so they said the compression was fine.now it has started using oil. i did take picstures of the dust in the tube and still have them for proof.the truth be known the dealer probally didn't even check the compression because he said he put ngk plugs in for me and i pulled the plugs out the other day and they were chapion plugs so that tells me alot.mine is a gen 1.i whent ahead and put ngk back in! _________________ SCOTT STORIE |

I want to say that keeping the dust from getting inside the cab ( the best you can ) and sealing the air box lid also putting a prefilter in the cap area really does help.
I put rubber mats under the seats, new skid plate, taped up holes behind the seats, firewall block off kit, foamed firewall holes, tape up drain holes in cab when not needed.
Added fender flares ect. All this has helped, plus it makes driving the RZR much more pleasurable. Doors I am sure would help.
I am not saying that you need to buy all these things but my plan is to do all these things any way and then I will rebuild the top end in 1-2 years
I went from using 8 oz. of oil to 3-4 oz of oil every 75 miles just by using regular oil.
Not the big fix just letting you know what has worked for me. _________________ Polaris RZR - build date - 6-15-2007 - Black ITP True Beadlock Wheels with Polished Rings.26"- 6x9x14 front, 6x11x14 Maxxis Bighorn Tires rear, 1.5 adapters - total width in rear of 63" - Gibson exhaust, Factory UTV skid plate,W.E. | Has anyone developed a correlation between the dust problem and windshield usage? The only time that I have a dust problem is when using a windshield-either full or half. I have quit using the windshields and have no dust in my filter area. It appears to me that many of those complaining the loudest show pictures of their RZR's with windshields. Polaris should not even sell the windshields. They may have shot themselves in the foot! |

| No windshield on my RZR and every time I ride on what we call dry mud (dust) it gets everywhere including the intake system. Sealing up all the areas of the cab looks like a long hard job but I can't help but believe that it will help. |

If you seal up the openings into the cab, from underneath and from both wheel areas, you won't have a problem with dust when using the 1/2 windshield.
Read the previous posts on this effort. Polaris has, and has made some major improvements in this area with the '09s
