Hear your anger and frustration. Buddy had same issue, the top end rebuild did the job for them. My lower end was shot as well and the engine was replaced. |

| Quote: | | Who replaced your engine? Did Polaris and if so, how did you go about getting it done? |
It was done under the free extended warranty Polaris gave the first several hundred RZR buyer's. The oil turned black and was very full of metal. The metal went through everything. There was noting that would not have needed replaced in the bottom end. One cylinder had a nice groove. The whole engine was shot. It was not a matter of just the rings being worn and using oil. The rings on my buddies were razor sharp, his comment, his lower end was not torn up like mine.
I really do understand your concern. The amount of dirt in the bottom of the jug could have done lots of damage to the crank and bearings, oil pump, lifters, cam, etc. The dealer needs to do a complete tear down and inspection all of the lower end. At least they need to pull the lifters out and inspect the bottom of them. That will give a great indication as to how much or little wear the lower end has had. Then look at the cam lobes also. Those are two very high pressure wear points and will show damage quickly.
From what I have learned, it REALLY is up to the dealer going to bat and making it happen for you. IF your dealer will give you a real person to talk to in Polaris to state your case and have that person look at your video. Warranty work such as this, is the real test that separates the great dealers from all the rest. The way Polaris gets around this is to claim the air filter has to be cleaned every 25 minutes in flower type dust and if not, it is the owner's lack of maintenance who is at fault.
The extended warranty company sent an underwriter to the dealer to take pictures and make a written report. The engine was so bad a blind man could have seen there was only one option.
With my new engine, I have spent many, many hours and between $1000 to $1500 hard money trying to stop the very fine dust from getting in the engine. Have not had total success, but the new engine has 185 to 190 compression as of Thursday. After every ride it eats dust, the oil and filter is changed. Along with another intake refinement.
Anyone what to know of a really GREAT dealer in Oregon, just ask me.
Still hoping before the end of this month we will have some resolution to this major problem. Of course, if they wait and time it just right, the dusty season will be over for the year and they can give us all a 6 month extended warranty and it will be expired before the next dusty season arrives.
I know, I'm such as optimist.
Oops! Noticed what topic this is under. Probably not the correct one for this discussion. I would have no concerns if those in charge deem it best to relocate this discussion. _________________ Sandblaster

I called my dealer yesterday and they said the fix happened months ago and I already had it.
I explained the situation and he asked around the shop and no one knew a thing.
My questions is why would Polaris go on this site, make claims about a letter, a fix, etc and not clue in their dealers to what they are doing.
Also, you would think that the people that sell and service these machines would lurk on these websites once in a while just to see what people are talking about.
Still waiting for word back from dealer. He said he would investigate which I assume means call Polaris.
Getting frustrated on this end. |

I just bought the BTI air box for both of my RZRs, an 08, and a 09 RZR S at $1,100 dollars. I told my dealer I wanted the new bellows boot for them. He called Polaris and they told him I could buy them along with the new filter if I wanted to, but they were not providing them for free. I went ahead and bought the boots at $25, as I did not want to wait any longer for them. I am more than a little disappointed in Polaris, and I think they are blowing smoke to the PRC admin people. I have bought 3 RZRs in the last 18 months and expected a little more from Polaris. BTW, my dealer made this call in my presence on speaker phone. So, no B.S. On the part of the dealer.
Keep in mind, my 09 RZR S is less than a month old and did not come with the new improvements. _________________ Ed 08 RZR. 09 RZR S

X2 I have thoroughly inspected my new '09 RZR S and have none of the supposed new fixes. The only thing I have is the third clip on the air box and the closed cell foam in the cab air box. I am not going to change anything on it because I do not want Polaris denying my warranty for after market products. I did buy the extended warranty and I am hoping everything will be ok. I did go for a pretty dusty ride last week and everything seems to be ok and I will keep my fingers crossed that it stays that way. I am very disappointed after all of the talk from Polaris and the pics on the forum and UTVguide.net of all of the imprvements to find out that none of them were on there. I was under the impression from written statements that the S was supposed to have a larger filter and all of the rest of the things that Polaris published. Oh well I guess we will see. _________________ John

The Polaris Dealers received notice today about the letter that was being sent out by Polaris offering Razor customers the Free Air Filter. The copy that I have is very hard to read but I see where no other parts are offered for the Air Intake/Filter problem. _________________

Here is a link to the letter to Polaris dealers. It tells about the extended warranty. On the 2nd page is the URL to sign up for your free filter upgrade. You do not need to wait for your letter. I signed up for mine last night.

Sorry. I just tried the dealer link and it said it was not available at this time. I would keep trying since it worked last night. Maybe too many people signing up.
This is the sign up site:

I have posted complain's about rzr air box before. Bought in sept 07 riddin about 96 hrs. Now a NEW problems is accurring machine idle's at about 800 . First notice's about two weeks ago while at winrock. I figure it's the t-bap sensor. Has anyone else had this problem? Would air box dust be the problem? My budddies started doing the same thing yesterday while riding winrock. I love this machine but i just want to be able to ride without having problem. COME ON POLARIS FIX THIS DAMN AIR BOX PROBLEM.......... _________________ steven hall

My Rzr purchased new Oct 07 was in to the local dealer twice during the warranty for rough running, twice they cleaned out the throttle body (documented by mechanics). Compression was never checked and I was not smart enough to ask for this to be done.
Shortly after warranty expired I asked for compression check as I was burning 10 oz of oil every 100 miles. Dealer said it was at "125" and needed rings. It has been 2 months since I asked them to contact Polaris on my behalf for at least some help in footing part (or all of the bill). Dealer claims "they are working on it".
I am disappointed by the lack of backup. I love the design concept of my Razor, but I will never buy another Polaris product. I suppose I will find a local independent mechanic, have rings replaced, pay the bill and move on. No more Polaris for me. |
