The "Oil lock shock assembly" (part name of tilt steering per the manual) is leaking. It appears to be leaking the oil from the lever end of the shock, the one that raises and lowers the steering wheel. The oil is red in color and I'd say at least a half ounce has ran out so far and is still dripping. Has anyone else had this happen? I looked for info in the online manual but it doesn't have anything but a picture of it on the exploded view. I haven't tried calling a dealer yet, I thought I'd get some good feedback from all of you first. any help would be great !

Mine started leaking about amonth ago then last Sat. went riding and a good amount of oil puked out and the wheel flopped around on every bump.I removed shock and installed a piece of metal where shock was mounted to hold wheel in a fixed position the only problem without tilt I really have to suck the old gut in when it is in my toyhauler.

Mine would not "Lock" in a set position, it would always go to the top. So I went to my hardware store and bought some braded wire and a couple of crimps and now have a loop that when I lower the wheel it goes around the top shock bracket and holds it where I want it.
I hope that when the weather warms up it will return to normal.

Thank you guys for the input. I finally got the time to call the dealership back in Nebraska and ask them if they had heard of this problem, they haven't, they called Polaris on my behalf to see if my part would be covered and then called me back with the news that it wasn't. They quoted me a price of $98.49. Just so everyone has it the part is called the - Oil Lock Shock Assembley - part number 7043261.
All the Phoenix dealerships I called said the same thing but did say that I could contact Polaris directly so my plan is to buy the new part and find out from Polaris where to send the defective one and see if they will work with me as this is surely a safety issue due to the steering wheel flopping up and down with no way to lock it into place when the shock leaks the oil out . I have all of 50 hours of use on my RZR, it has never been abused or "rode hard and put away wet" It will be interesting to see what happens. I'll continue to update this post. If anyone has any other info please join in.

Ok everybody here's what I found out. I did some research with the help of GOOGLE. After removing the oil lock shock I found the manufactures name and model number stamped on the part. The companys name is STABILUS and our parts were made in Mexico. Now according to the STABILUS web site they make all sorts of different shocks and such and even talk about the quality of their product so thanks to good old GOOGLE I found the office and their telephone number here in the USA so I called them. I presented my situation to them and they were interested in resolving my issue. They sent me a new oil lock shock no charge!

Now for the kicker, before I got the new unit from STABILUS I had to spend the $100 bucks to buy one at a local POLARIS dealer since I was on my vacation and needed the part right away. My bad but I just couldn't wait as we were on the way to Parker,Az for the week.

Anyway, my question to POLARIS is this, If the part supplier is willing to resolve the problem with their parts why are you, POLARIS INC, not checking into this on behalf of all of us that have purchased a RZR from you?
You have an awsome product but when things go wrong we need your support to resolve them especially when the manufacturer of said parts have pride in their product and are willing to stand by the quality of what they produce and sell to you.

If any one else out there has had problems with the tilt steering oil lock shock give STABILUS a call and ask for the Quality department. Their telephone number is 704-865-7444. I hope this helps

Thank you Kevin for the time you put into finding a resolution to this problem.

I'm sure there are a few Rzr owners out there that will be grateful to hear that some suppliers have great interest in the satisfaction of customers and want to preserve their company reputation. Too bad Polaris doesn't.

I had a problem with mine also. It never leaked oil, it just wouldn't lock in place. My dealer replaced mine under warranty.

If you go to the http://www.stabilus.com/us.html

And go to the Service tab then to installation hints and tips tab you will find that Polaris installed these upside down.

Mounting Orientation
If possible, install gas springs so that the piston rod points down in the inactive state – unless they were designed for non-orientation specific installation. This will ensure optimum lubrication of the guide and sealing system at all times.

Anyone have any updates on Stabilus replacing the tilt steering shock? Mine busted on my 09 Ranger. Anyone know of a parts place that sells an alternative? 88 hours on my Ranger and I think it was just the cold weather this winter here (TN).

You guys and gals are great. I have been reading the post’s for a couple of years and used many of the fixes you have come up with for my RZR.
If Toyota would give you a bunch of those problem cars, I bet you could come up with a fix that would really work.

Have a good day

Mine quit locking into place solidly over the winter months. It slides back and forth with a little assistance now without use of the adjustment lever.

I ended up ordering one from my dealer. Works great now. They could have made it a little easier to install the bolts!!! You need about three sets of hands to install it.

Mine started acting up about a month ago. Took it off the RZR clean and re adjusted it and it now works again.

But I dropped my RZR of at my dealer today. The Head of the service department had one laying on his counter. I asked if someone had to buy one, he said no it was a warranty item. I told him about all the people having a problem getting them under warranty and that some have went so far as to find the manufacturer for replacement. He said he couldn't understand why people were having a hard time getting them through warranty, and that he has ordered at least a dozen in the past month. Some under Polaris and some under extended warranty. Dan is good at getting things, he has had CV joints replaced on my RZR even with me having a Roctek lift. A lot of it depends on how they present it to Polaris or the extended warranty Co. A great dealer means a lot.
