|
|
It all started as a great day two at the rally. We opted to take the crew out with the royal blue rangers on there ride. Luther and his guys had a nice ride planned out. There were a couple of technical spots that were a challenge to get the crew through without tipping over. In addition, there were a couple of very tight spots. All and all we were doing good until got high centered......during the process of getting un-high centered I had heard the dreaded loud pop from the right front of the machine. At that point I knew I broke something.....I busted the right side outer CV joint.
Fortunately we only had about a quarter mile left to go on the mountain trail before we hit gravel.
At that point Luther pointed me in the direction to stinking creek road.
It was about 2 miles to the road and 10 miles back to camp. We made it back and can relax for the rest of the trip.
I guess its now time for a gorrilla axle

Are the gorilla cv's wortht he money? I just snapped my second cv joint. Both on the right outer. The first time it was under warranty so I wasnt too concerned, but i am 3 weeks out now and do not want to be replacing cv's every other month. _________________ 2010 Crew, EMP Quick Detach windshield, 14" itp black SS212, 27" mudlite xtr's, 2" EMP lift, 4500SE Viper Winch, Jet HID light conversion

Yes, definitely so. I've tried several cheaper brands and none of them were even equal to the strength of the OEM. Gorilla is the only one I feel is a true upgrade. _________________

Steve, I would give Howard at Super ATV a call he hooked me up at the rally with a whole axle and I was able to test it out and had no problems with his product at all and its way cheaper than a gorrilla axle.
And if it wasn't for Brian a racer for Super ATV bringing down the axle I would of been stuck watching! _________________ Karl & Charla / Leslie, Mi.

I have heard nothing but good about the axles from Super ATV. We had Gorilla's on the Ranger when we had it. Now that we have a stock one popping on the RZR, I think we will be giving Super ATV a call also.

I just ordered a rhino brand axle from Super ATV, which is half the price of a Gorilla. Anyone have any tips on the axle removal and installation? I had the wheel off yesterday, it looks like you just need to remove the caliper, a arms, and axle nut. Any hidden problems that anyone has come across in replacing an axle? Thanks in advance. Im also looking for a front bumper/brushguard if anyone has a stock laying around they want to sell. I caught a stump in reverse and it pulled mine straight out and bent it and the winch mount pretty good. Rough weekend at the cabin. _________________ 2010 Crew, EMP Quick Detach windshield, 14" itp black SS212, 27" mudlite xtr's, 2" EMP lift, 4500SE Viper Winch, Jet HID light conversion

It is a real easy fix, jack up un hook shock at the bottom tie it out of the way and take your axle nut off then the top two a arm bolts and flip out of the way and and just pop the axle out.... _________________ Karl & Charla / Leslie, Mi.

Thanks Karl. You unbolt the a arms at the frame, not the wheel? Hopefully the rhino setup will last longer than stock. _________________ 2010 Crew, EMP Quick Detach windshield, 14" itp black SS212, 27" mudlite xtr's, 2" EMP lift, 4500SE Viper Winch, Jet HID light conversion

I think just the top one. Its a different method than I used but it sounds simpler .I had to undo the caliper to get something to clear but I think his method skips that step. It should flop out toward you enough to push the axle out of the hub with just the top undone if I understood him correct. _________________ 2010 800 XP
