Now my 17 has almost 6 times the miles on it that the 18 does, and the play in both machines feels the same. Both of them have the clunking noise from the front shaft, the 18 for sure has had the noise since new. Is it just a sloppy design to begin with or has someone actually come up with a fix?
Poor design in my opinion. There is a fix, it's just $$$. I recently install a new prop shaft from CCI Driveline on a 16 900. Nice piece of hardware.

Good to hear. So all or most of the play was from wear on the prop shaft then? The shaft on the diff was OK? I am wondering if I should take mine apart and have a look. I guess my concern on the issue went down when I found it felt the exact same on our new one after a couple hundred miles. I would hate to have it fly apart out in the woods though.

I’ve come to that realization as well. But, if they put the wrong shaft on it they will stand behind it. They’re good folks and listen to what I find on the forum.

The output shaft was toast as well as the prop shaft.

Ive had some problems with front drive shaft noise vibration replaced it one because Polaris said it was causing headpipe to break did stop a lot of vibs but still broke another pipe a sloppy fit between yoke and pinion seems like I seen a front yoke that was split with 2 clamp bolts to clamp it to the pinion seems like a good idea to stop some of the rattle vibration but cant seem to find it again. probably doesn't help I have 30000 thousand miles on it. Just don't want to replace front diff and drive shaft for $$$ and still have a sloppy fit.

As I said both the output shaft and prop shaft were shot. Everything has been replaced and it runs smooth and no more rattle.
I’m way out of warranty but they only charged me for the parts as I have been squawking about this rattle for a long time. Still no definitive answer as to why it occurs.
Now we will see if the rattle stays away.
