Inching ever closer. Took both Rangers to a local ATV shop for oil changes and a good inspection. There have been some late season snowfalls, hopefully there won't be too many trails closed.

Have fun and stay safe! Please post a write up when you get a chance! This is where we would like to go next year... From speaking with folks that have went, you pretty much have to book it Jan 1st, as places fill up really quickly. Also, any hints, tips or suggestions for a future visitor would be greatly appreciated!

We still have a few days of vacation to go and more riding to do but here are a few to get you started. The first day we rode the Durango and Silverton train, something I have been wanting to do that for years. DH357 and my daughter decided to take a nap on the way back.

The first day of riding, out of Silverton we tried to make it Animas Forks, but were blocked by an avalanche just past the Eureka site. They told us the snow was over 100 ft deep in places. The grandkids loved playing in the snow, throwing snowballs and even made a mini snowman.

The next day we went to up to Corkscrew Pass. We made it to the pass but the trail was blocked by snow beyond that. We turned around and went to Hurricane Pass and California Pass, 12,970 ft. We drove through snow "canyons" that towered 15+ feet over the trail. The San Juan county dozer driver was slowing working on the Alpine loop but probably won't get it cleared this year.

We booked a house, through VRBO, that is about 1/2 way between Durango and Silverton. I parked my trailer and Rangers in Silverton so I wouldn't have to drag it over two mountains each way.
