Hey I am new to this so I hope I am doing this right. Anyways I have a 06 700xp and have been dealing with a rough idle and rough running up through half speed. Runs fine from half speed to wide open. I have checked the wires to the TPS and TBAP sensors all seem to be fine. I also checked the setting of TPS and it was correct at .660. Also replaced plugs and wires. I hooked up fuel pressure gauge and I am getting constant 39 psi at half to wide open throttle but from idle to half throttle fuel pressure is very erratic jumping from around 32 psi to 42 psi and only jumping 2 to 3 pounds at idle. Curious as to whether I am having voltage drop to fuel pump or if pump is just bad. Any help is much appreciated!

The fuel pump should maintain 39 psi +/- 3 throughout the range. I would check both the TPS base and flow setting as well.

I would say the fuel pump sounds like it's bad.

Don't forget to clean out the strainer (directly above it) when you go to replace it. Cheaper auto parts store alternatives are in the "sticky" in the Technical section under "important parts info for rangers"

I would definitely rule out the fuel pump, but your description of the problem sounds exactly like what my '06 did when it had a broken TPS wire. I'd go back and check the wires thoroughly......a broken wire can be very difficult to find.

Ok so I pulled connections to PCM and I don't see any burnt connections everything was clean and looked good. I also stripped the casing around the wires leading up to TPS sensor and checked wires all seems well only one spot where I pierced the yellow wire insulation to make sure voltage was correct. Didn't have time to pull pump but plan on doing that soon. Any other recommendations? Thanks for the help

After reading Curt's response, I went back and re-read your original post. Apparently I must have missed the part about 32 psi. If it falls below 35 psi, you'll have performance issues. It sounds like it's good through most of the range, so I suspect there might be some dirt in the tank that has made it's way into the pump and regulator. You might need to pull the tank, make sure it's completely clean, and disassemble the pump/regulator assembly to clean it out. What typically happens is that dirt gets trapped in the regulator......and left uncorrected, it will eventually burn up the pump.
