Where is the best / cheapest place to get filters and oil. Drain plug seal and so on for my 800 HO Midsize?

If possible can you list parts and where to get them? this will be the first service I am going to do, I would also like to adjust the valves as I am sure they will need doing.

Thank in advance.

Hi there.

Not sure if you're open to running other brands of oil, but I've had good luck with Amsoil.

I buy a perferred membership which gets me their products at a discounted price from retail.

In my estimation, you could buy the 1 year membership, and all the oils to do your engine, trans, and front diff (plus engine oil filter) for the same money as buying your oils from polaris.

Plus the next time you service your oils will be cheaper than polaris if you continue to buy from them.

I order online and have the stuff shipped right to my door. Love it.

Mike(Z71) might chime in and tell you more about it.

I learned the hard way. Loosen fill plugs BEFORE you remove drain plugs.:glee::encouragement:

Whats with the fill plugs before drain plugs? lol...

I am open to anything really, you guys have been doing this longer than I. What about filters and new seals, what to get and where from? I don't want to go to the stealership if I can help it.

I called the stealership today, asked them about a service. $200 plus the parts. I can't book it in and if I want it done, well I have to leave it with them for a month. A MONTH!

My polaris dealer is absolutely useless, as soon as they get their money they put you on the back burner. I can see my next ride is going to be another Yamaha or maybe the new Honda lol.

Thanks for all the help, I am off to find a service manual for it now. Anyone have a PDF version?

Order placed for oil and filter, hitting everything and saving myself $200 in labor and a month of non-usage.

Amsoil products, thanks for the link.

Build yourself some ramps so you get it off the ground another 6 inches or so. Helps a lot, at least it does on my XP900. Happy wrenching!

Already thinking of ways to get the beast in the air... I have a couple of axle stands and a 3 ton car jack, sure I can rig something up that is dangerous for me to be under.. lol

I did my complete service (front- and rear-end, engine oil and cleaned the air filter) in about 1 hour. One think you need to have on-hand to avoid stripping the drain plugs are some hex sockets hex sockets | eBay Having these will make it simple and remember don't over tighten them when putting back them back in :)

FYI...The link to the Ebay has no relation to me, just to illustrate they can be purchased cheaply, even Walmart or alternatively, you can go to a tool place and get some high quality ones.

yah, METRIC "dik pins" or hex keys sockets are a must. DO NOT use a torx...dont do it, save yourself the time and aggervation, trust me. lol

Also, Avoid the craftsman ones, they SUUCCKKK!! ive broke MORE of those, than most ppl have even seen. Something about them just SUCK all together.

Also, Tap on the drain plug with a SMALL hammer.. i said TAP! lol dont blow the bottoms outta stuff, just give it a few good BAPS to help loosen it. lol

WagZ, made me think of one additional recommendation, clean the unit very well before starting, oil cap, dip stick and drain plugs as this will only help you getting the hex sockets installed and avoid any dirt getting into places it doesn't need to be in :)
