I can't seem to get my ranger to go more than 30 mph in high range. All I can get is 4100 rpms out of it. If I put it in low range I can get 6300 rpms but as soon as I put it in high range it won't go. Any thoughts?

This is a wierd problem indeed.

Normally I'd say something like this where you have limited top speed in high range but good speed in low I'd say is a bad fuel pump and low power. But, you're saying the rev limiter is cutting it out?

If that's true, than that throws out anything to do with clutching, belt, or fuel. I'd be looking at the Crank position sensor on the right hand rear side of the engine. look at those wires closely where they go up and into the main harness. I've seen it happen many times where a wire that's slightly shorted out will cause the computer to be confused and make the engine cut out at wierd times...

I've also seen the bushing come out of the primary clutch and "stick" the clutch in such a way that it would be incapable of turning over a certain amount of rpms. The drive belt is along for the ride. It's either working or it's not.

Need to verify for sure if it's the rev limiter cutting it out in high range, or if it's a misfire maybe? A misfire could defiantly be fuel pressure related.

Curt-

Was their an ECU on the 08s? or was everything run through the ecm?

I'm just wondering if he's mistaking hitting the rev limiter for a engine stumble or consistant misfire at 4100 rpm when he's cruzing down the road in high range.?
