I have a 2011 ranger 800 xp . I have a clicking noise coming from engine. I think. Sound like a lifter, sound increases with rpm . I also notice today at full throttle rpm would jump to 5600 then short while later drop to 4500 and 30 mph at full throttle. I need help to resolve this issue. Thanks

My experience with lifters is usually the noise goes away when the engine gets to running temperature (not always but a lot of times) it sounds like its something more performance type if the engine Roms are dropping off like maybe its a valve.

does your click get louder when the rpms increase?

How's your oil level? have you ran it out of oil or nearly out of oil recently?

if the knock gets worse as the rpms increase you could be dealing with a rod bearing failure.

The rpms could be related to that, or they may not. the rpms could easily be related to low fuel pressure, or even clutch problems.

could it be a collapsed lifter? I suppose, but I've never seen it or any kind of valvetrain failure out of a polaris twin.

can you take some video of the noise?

The clutch will make a clicking noise also. Sometimes it's hard to tell the difference. Clutching can cause the rpm and speed issues also.

This is true. I've got a clutch on a customer's 09 right now that's making a heck of a racket. one easy way to tell is just by taking the clutch cover off. if the noise gets worse, you know it's in the clutch system. if it doesn't, you need to keep looking.

Sorry for being gone so lng. Took bike to dealer. They pull it apart and found rod bearings are gone. Extended warranty polaristar is dening warranty because of my uni air filter and unsufiscant mantience records. Bike has be serviced every 100 hrs with polaris oil change kit

Most warranty company's don't need much of an excuse to to avoid paying a warranty claim. You alter the machine in any way unless you have a decent dealer you can just about kiss your warranty good by. I keep good records, use Polaris Oils, etc, hoping I will never have to use my extended warranty and fight to get things covered.

This is why I Never buy any extended warranty. A big waste of money in my opinion. I had a couple issues with Polaris snowmobiles over the years , but they were new and still under warranty, my dealer said it takes 6 months for Polaris to get him his money on any warranty work. They screw the dealers too.

Ya any aftermarket air filters and they are going to say it let dirt by the filter. Automotive companies do the same thing.
