Had this ranger two weeks and its let me sit twice now. Last night included a nice senic mile hike back to the cabin in the dark

I thought i had a bad batter so i replaced it with an odyssey and it lasted almost a whole weekend before it died again

What do i check first? Already checked cables and they are tight

Tx

I would use a multi-meter and test the battery terminals while running at a few thousand RPM to ensure it is charging. If it is, I would then use the same meter to check for a battery draw that is excessive. If there is a draw more that "normal" (may have to refer to a manual or someone who has one for this machine to see what a normal draw is) I would start looking to see what is causing the draw. I always start simple if possible and rule out the basic stuff. If it is not charging I would be looking at the voltage regulator.

any simple testing I should do before I drop money on a new VRM?
You can test the stator output. Not sure what the spec's are, but I believe that all 3 wires should be hot and have (close to) equal voltage. Maybe somebody with a service manual will chime in with the test procedure spec's.
