Hello All,

Just got a new Ranger and I'm trying to figure out what kind of accessories I need. That will kind of depend on what the rig can support.

Does anyone know what the peak electrical output is for the 2015 Pro Star? Also, is the normal operational load published anywhere? If I can get this, I can figure my excess capacity and how much I can install.

I'll be filling in a profile when I can get her gussied up a bit. I'm thrilled to own a Ranger and to be a member of the PRC Forum.

Thanks All,

wornboots

Welcome to the forum!

The electrical system can support all of the factory Polaris accessories and more. How much more I don't know but I'm sure someone on here will give you some exact numbers.

Enjoy your new machine!

I'm sure somebody will chime in but it's about 48 amps at 3200 rpm

^ He is right.
Polaris lists the Ranger 900 stator capacity in watts, at 575 watts. Remember that the machine uses a portion of this electrical capacity just to run - the ECU, the fuel pump, the tail lights, headlights, and the fan all will take a sizeable chunk out of what the stator can produce.

I might be flat out wrong, but I would estimate that you have about 20-25 amps for accessories and still be able to maintain 12.7V in the battery.

The stock incandescent headlamps and the cooling fan are the biggest electrical consumers on a stock Ranger 900. With the engine at idle, the stator can't handle much more according to my multimeter. Luckily, the stator output increases quickly as soon as the engine speeds up to anything over an idle.

Thanks to all you guys! Great information. I went out and found the fuse box installation stuff and realized - there are some really smart guys on this forum. I've spent about six hours reading different threads on accessories and electrical work on the Ranger and I have many hours left before I start buying and installing. I have learned one thing - I'm going to need some serious money.

It reminds me of the old prayer - "Dear Lord, when I die, please don't let my wife sell my Ranger for what I told her I spent."

Really hard to get a handle on how many watts/amps the machine actually uses - a lot of variables! Suffice it to say, based on what other members have done successfully, you should be ok to run a couple of light bars, a radio with a wicked amp, a winch, and a couple of spot lights with no problems. If you plan on photon torpedoes or a nuclear centrifuge, you may be pushing it! :)
