I have a 2015 ranger 900xp. It has about 50 miles on it and maybe 15 hours pretty much new. I haven't abused it just rode some trails nothing extreme I would say. Today I was riding around with the neighbors and started to hear some sort of tapping or knocking noise that seems associated with the drive line best I can tell. I haven't done much other than glance under it . On,y running 26 inch big horns not lifted or a arms or anything. Seems like it just all of a sudden started doing it riding around neighbor hood. Any one got any leads as where to start. Is there anything that I should check that may have cam loose or causing to do some like a nocking in the drive line like something Is hitting or loose ? I wiggled the drive shaft and axles seemed ok. Never owned a ranger so I'm learning here

Next time you hear it, slightly apply the brakes, the pads on these are really sloppy and can give off alot of noise, and see if the noise goes away.

You will know if you have a broken axle. Will sound like someone is under there with a hammer and you will feel a vibration.
They are easy to diagnose. It's the little minor things that drive a fella crazy trying to track down.

You might consider getting the wheels off the ground (jack stands) and shacking the wheels to see see if anything is loose and lightly try the drive line to isolate it.

That's what I was going to do when it stopped raining. You folks giving me some ideas to look for when I start. It kinda does sound like a hammer knocking faster gets louder. It was just weird it was a all of sudden thing. Your right it will drive you slap crazy trying to figure stuff out. There is a huge learning curve here as I have never had anything like this

My 2015 just started to do this at mud nationals. I still havent figured it out. I thought it was something to do with the suspension because it only done it if I hit a bump or something. Also at mud nationals my turf mode actuator started to click while it was running. I just unplugged it to make it stop

When you said that I remembered that 900s are famous for this. My buddies did the same thing and it was the plug itself. Unplug. clean, dielectric, put back together, problem solved. Everyone I have seen or read about doing this were low hours.

You may have gotten a stick jammed in over the skid plate. Before I put the footwell skid plates on mine I was always digging sticks out of the machine. When the turf mode actuator was clicking on mine it would do it even stopped and was very loud, a little dielectric grease solved that problem.

I got it out and went down the steet I stuck my head out to listen and look I happened to see the wheel wobble and was like there is the issue. Tightened it up and good to go.. Doaaa ! Thank goodness it was simple and I caught it . The little things ! Smdh !!
