I've heard several people post on this forum and another about the air filter on the 570 getting dirty really fast. So, today, I checked mine for the second time since I took delivery of it around the 1st part of January. The first time I checked it was about three ago while we still had snow on the ground and roads. Just since then, we've lost our snow and everything here is dusty as it becomes in mountains. Well, today I checked it again and it was essentially clogged. I removed the air filter and started shaking it and bounced it against the tire a few times. Can't believe how much dirt came out! I got my shop vac out and vacuumed it and blew it out then cleaned out the compartment. So the purpose of this thread is to encourage you to check it when you are out driving on dirt roads. If I can figure out how to put a pre-filter on mine, it will happen.

I think the location of air intake is causing the primary issue. I notice the dust line on my unit following a good washing and short drive and believe the dust which travels outward travels along the side and drawn in to the air filter unit. For this reason, I’m considering rerouting mine, possibly routing it to under the hood. The other portion you might consider looking at and I know it’s a 5/16” socket is the belt area, because it draws “air” in from the other vent opening and may be prematurely hurting the belt, so it may be worth an exploratory visit in there.

I haven't inspected the belt yet but will do that. So, how do you open that vent box so you can put a pre filter in there?

I seen on some of the 900s, there is a piece of frog skin (I think that is what it was called) over the intake vents. That would keep a lot out and keep the filter cleaner

The "Filters skinz" material can be bought from "outterwears" in a universal sheet and then made to fit. I also highly suggest a dual stage foam filter that is oilable.. I prefer UNI but ive also had "no-toil" dual stage as well. Either way, Oiled dual stage foam is the way i prefer to go..ive had great luck with them when properly maintained.

Are you using frog skin specifically for dust purposes? Reason for asking, numerous 900 owners complain about water getting through the intake opens which are covered by frog skin and curious how well it prevents dust or should I be considering other options? I do, however, like the idea of adding a pre-filter to the air filter and will be looking into that later this week.

There is a piece of porous sponge type material in the air intake on the side. It gets dirty.

Can you take a picture of it and how do you remove it? Reason for asking, I do not see it and the manual doesn't mention it or at least I didn't see it.
Mine is a 2014 non crew. Picture might end up sideways. On drivers side.

On my 2015 Midsize 570 crew, when you remove the panel by the rear seats, this comes off as well leaving a 2" square draft opening for the air intake. There is nothing in there except dust...no pre filter of any kind. So, I'm thinking through what to insert in that opening for a pre-filter. The problem is you have to remove this panel every time you want to clean it, once you install one.

Why wouldnt you buy the bypass kit made by polaris? I think it was promoted as being a solution for snow when running w tracks but it was my understanding that it solves the dust problem associated with the poor location of the dust imtake for the clutch and air imtake. It was about 40$ for the kit

the foam media used in mine (which is WAY different than yinz's buggys...its out undre hood with a snorkel type device..) is a very very "porous" type of material. like hooge holes (hooge... Like huge, but with 2 O's instead..) Stops the big things, like bugs, birds, oats, and things similar. then the foam filter catches the fine stuff on its oily surface. i dotn personally have the prefilter on mine at the moment, but i do want one.

Rdfish1 are you talking about Polaris #2205192? Does this fit the 570 or just the 900? Just doing a search on air intake rerouting shows that practically everything Polaris makes has a problem with dust and Polaris has manufactured rerouted intakes, except for the 570 Ranger. I'm starting to get just a little jaded with Polaris for producing machines with known issues and no work around.

Hopefully, we figure something out which bypass the inherent issue.

It would be nice if they would just fix the
problem. Why try and jerry rig it.
polaris should design it better.
