6 AMP Start Diode on a 2007 Ranger 700XP

Has anyone run into one of these 6 AMP START DIODES part # 2410000 . It appears they were only installed on the 2007 700 Rangers and I can't figure out what it is good for. It is tied in right at the starter solenoid which I have replaced with a known good one along with a replacement key switch. All functions work..ie fuel pump, headlights etc and I can turn the key on and jump the solenoid with a screwdriver and it fires right up. No starter function otherwise Anyone have an idea of it's function or if it is truly necessary ? TIA

It looks like this diode was used in the Ranger from 2007 to 2009 . I am wondering if these were installed for 'protection' in case someone hooked the battery cables up backwards and can be removed.

Thanks for checking Forde, I was hoping you would see the thread . I am thinking it is for protection from dreaded reverse polarity. They must sell a good amount of them as I see a couple large online dealers stock them as a regular sell item. About 15 dollars..

I was looking at the schematic for my '13 RZR 900XP and noticed one on there also (same P/N), but it doesn't appear to have anything to do with the start circuit. Comes in from the fuse box and out to a splice (w/Lights & AWD switches) then on to Diagnostic plug, ECM, and ground. Search on the P/N shows it on various Rangers from '07-'09 and '12-15 (guess they ran out in '10 & '11) as well as on some RZRs from '12-'15. Searched the service manual for "diode" and got no results.

Thanks for checking Forde, I was hoping you would see the thread . I am thinking it is for protection from dreaded reverse polarity. They must sell a good amount of them as I see a couple large online dealers stock them as a regular sell item. About 15 dollars..

I think the diode has something to do with the voltage going from the stater to the battery. The stater on my ranger 700 does not charge the battery. It actually causes the voltage to gradually go down until it stops running' I was told that it was caused by a bad diode, but I don't know for sure. Does anyone have any other Ideas why it's not charging?

Larry, the diode above is a fail-safe mechanism that blows if someone hooks power up backwards. A 1-way diode that if it is compromised, the power is cut off immediately.
You could have a bad stater or a bad voltage regulator causing the discharge . Do you have a multi-meter to run some tests ? There are some values you can check to diagnose . Lettuce know....... o_O

I changed the stater and it is good. they told me at the dealership that they had never seen a regulator go bad, so I didn't check it out. but is there a way to test the regulator, because that could be the problem

Larry !!! DO YOU HAVE A METER !!!!!!!! ?? Yes, you can easily check the voltage regulator output at the battery at 3k RPM METER on VDC you should see 13.9-14.2 ish volts.. Yes the VR's can go bad. The worst part of that is that people replace them with an aftermarket knock off that is no good.

There is a chance that your battery is no good as well... Volts but low amps.. But we will never know if you DON"T HAVE A MULTI-METER !!

I did both of those things. I bought a new battery with no difference in the results. I put the new battery in and it tested 12.46 volts. i started up the motor and revved up the engine and the voltage was the same, but it gradually went down to 11.9 volts. I guess I need a new regulator, but you said not to buy one on line. is there a place that you recommend where I can get a good one. Thanks for your help

Larry, BPS here on PRC says to use RM STATOR for a good aftermarket voltage regulator. High Quality Powersport OEM Replacement Parts | RMSTATOR

100 bucks less that PO PARTS...... GUARANTEED.


He is a ATV/UTV shop in Texas and has had good service from RM STATOR..
