How many of. U folks think you'll still be able or even want to hit the trails at that age? My dad turned 87 in Feb. and today went and bought a new rzr 900. He's been riding now for several years and currently has been riding a rzr 800. I'm really amazed myself that he is able to get out and do what he does. I kinda hinted around that maybe a ranger would better suit him but he would have none of that.so I said pop get what YOU want and enjoy it.he rode it around the dealership today and the look on his face said it all lol.those thing are FAST.
He was very poor growing up,joined the Navy in WW2 and worked the coal mines of WV and then a federal mine inspector after that. Work hard all his life and did very well.Anyway he picks his new ride up next week after they put on the extra stuff he got.im looking forward to getin on the trails with him this year.I sure hope I'm able to do the things he does if I even live that long lol.

Good for him!! I've got about 102 wear-n-tear years on me (64 calendar years) and have left several pounds of internal organs on the operating room floor over the past couple years. My doctors have advised me to give up the off road activities and be content with a rocking chair. Ain't going to happen! My goal is cash in behind the wheel of a Polaris (hope I don't take out a couple of you guys with me!). [One of] my biggest regrets in life is that I spent all my life 'making a living' instead of 'living a living' - started collecting Social Security the year after I bought my '11 Ranger - wish I could say, "I remember my '99 Ranger...!" My advice to all you guys is to screw the corporate world, tell your boss 'adios' and go enjoy life with your friends and families - Obama ain't gonna let you go hungry! Hodad, I'd be honored to ride with your Dad and you sometime! :eek:nthego:

Thanks Forde, maybe we can make that happen after the weather breaks.you would fit right in with us. We are all close to the same age as you and love to ride. We are only about 30 minutes from Hatfield mccoy trail.Im still working a job ,may get to retire one of these days. Think about it and we will make it happen if you want to come up here and ride in wild and wonderful West by gawd Virginia. Be glad to have you along.

That's great to hear!! (From all you guys). I still consider myself young (@ 46). But also remember as a kid my grandparents saving all their lives and never doing anything. You can't take money with you and my belief is my parents raised me to be self dependent. I would much rather watch my parents enjoy their life than worry about money or an inheritance for my brothers and I. Good for your father and you. Cherish the time and fun Hodad!! I wouldn't mind making it to Hatfields to join you guys!! A few hours drive from PA!

My hat is off to your dad. I can only hope and pray I'm still on the trails at that age. I grew up off-roading and can't imagine my life without it.

Reading this reminds me of an encounter a few years ago. My girls and I were stopped on the side of the trail to eat lunch. A guy slightly older than me (mid 50's???) and a considerably older guy came down the trail on quads. The way they came was pretty dang rough, so I was impressed with the older guy's skills. They stopped to chat for a while, and come to find out that was his dad. It was his 82nd birthday and they were out for a birthday ride. I thought that was VERY cool.

Same here Jerry, been riding off road more years than I care to say.In my younger years done some desert racing out west, enduros, motocross, flat rack and even a little trials.Lot of fun with some pain sprinkled in.All that was on 2wheels of course.i certianly enjoy getting out with my dad,he's a lot of fun and full of tall tales(I'm being very polite here lol).Life is short and I know time will catch him so I consider it time we'll spent when we can hit the trails.

Great thread Hodad, that's awesome that you guys are still able to hit the trails together. I grew up riding with my dad, one of my earliest memories is sitting on the gas tank of a Honda 3-wheeler. Luckily we're still able to go ride together occasionally, I can only hope for many more years of those trips.

We've been talking about a Hatfield McCoy trip, but I might be a little too young for this one. KIDDING!

87 and still riding....unbelievable. And a WWII vet ta boot. That era of American will never be again. They knew what it ment to earn .10 cents and work hard for it. To want to serve their country and help anyone who needs it. To never 'ever' ask for a hand out. To want to work a prosper. My dad served in WWII also , he passed in 1997. Loved to ride also. I think sometimes we forget how fragile life is. Here today ,sometimes gone today . Love your family and friends today and make sure they know it.

. He joined the navy in 45 at age 16 just 6 months before the war ended. Your right, that was a generation that was like no other. A lot of fine youg men and women that sacrificed so much

Well, I haven't left any organs on the floor just yet, but I have made several dogs happy with knee and hip bones. I ride most every day I'm home, spring, summer, fall and winter. I pray I'm still at it when I'm 87. And better yet, I hope I'm still out in front of my boys!
