So after reading for a couple hours on the front end noises of the XP900 I'm looking for some clarification on what everyone is hearing. I associate gear on gear noises to be a constant noise. Like a flat tone hmmmmmmmmmmmmm, but the noise I hear in mine is more along the lines of is wer wer wer wer wer wer wer wer. It sounds sort of along the lines of cold tires on a pickup, it's hard to explain.
So which noise is everyone hearing?
I don't know if I'd be able to get a video clip of mine since it's only above 25 or so

So after a quick trip to the dealer all is well. Apparently the noise I am hearing is caused by the front driveshaft not being 100% balanced since it is considered an off road vehicle. The mechanic said the noise is on all the new rangers and it is noticeable since they put a bigger muffler on and the 900's are all around quiter running. I guess Ill just keep on driving it and hope it doesnt turn into an issue.

A couple of folks have gone to the trouble and expense of having their driveshaft's balanced--not sure that it ended up being worth the effort and $...??

Well the front end noise was driving me crazy. I compared a one new to mine and the front axles going into the differential would wobble back and forth.
No oil leak, no water intruding the diff, and the oil was clean.
Under warranty thank goodness. the input bushing are bad, both sides.

Mine doesn't rattle at all. Had a funny noise coming from the front end but turned out to be a bad wheel bearing. Failed @ 500 miles.

Yep, and surely it has nothing to do with the drive shaft coming from the far back, left corner going at an angle to the front diff. and the slop in it everywhere, and surely it hasn't been balanced.
But between that and the front diff going swish, swish, swish who would notice? Being Sarcastic. They say its the quieter engine that allows use to hear all the things we couldn't before. As long as it doesn't self destruct I guess I'm okay with it, but if I had a motor cycle or boat that sounded like this it would be back being looked at.

BTW, A little grease on the slip joints helped mine for a few days but then it's back again. I'm starting to hear a Snap or Pop on tight corners but it sounds like the roll cage popping somewhere. Hopefully it's not the drive train, no load applied to drive train when it happens.

if you can hear the driveling making a jingle noise or a clank clank clank noise, I'm thinking you might have some loose/worn U joints on your hands. Mine don't start making that noise till about 800+ hours, and when they do, it usually means I've got a couple hundred more before they need to be replaced.

Having a driveshaft that's out of balance that bad will raise hell with the rest of the drivetrain, meaning the U joints, slip yoke(s) and the bearings on the output shaft of the trans and the pinion bearing on the front diff.

My (drivers side) front axle is really loose where it goes into the diff... no leaks coming out of the diff, but haven't checked for water inside since the last ride. Is that a normal issue???
