I have a 2013 ranger crew 800 and I wanted to find out if this is true, my parking brake is no good, the brake pads are wore out and i called my local dealer he said that you cant change the pads that it is a whole caliper change instead of the whole brake pads change, anyone got any insight?

wow....i smell a load of crap.. lol i could be wrong...but it'd be a good idea to look up a parts diagram..print it out, and take it into him...and ask wtf his deal is..

EDIT: ok, parts diagram shows no part number for pads... give us time, we'll find em for ya...

The part number for the brake pads, Polaris part# 2203148. (99% sure)
Two brake pads and shim packs.

There is some conflicting information from Polaris on this, but all of my information keeps bringing me back to the above part number.

Good deal, Glad someone with an XP could chime in. The XP im not really all that familiar with, however from what i can see the parking brake pads are basically all the same?? And the fact that someone says ya cant buy just the pads really fired me up...

Someone posted about a Mod they did to shim the pads, to extend the life and use of the original pads, I know it's here somewhere.

What I was told by Polaris dealer, the assembly is all one piece, the pads are riveted to the parking brake, i wanted to have them ordered for when I get home from work in a couple weeks and this is what he has told me, if so, is there an interchange for one from another ranger(the caliper assembly) that would work the same so i can be able to change the pads, i know with the turf mode delete me and Daniel Turner of Turner cycles are talking, ill be using a sportsman 800 transmission gear and stuff to make my ranger not have that faulty crappy turf mode, but nothing else about brake pads yet.

The E brake fix thread, is Nethawks E brake fix/mod, look it up. It does use automotive brake pads, that you will modify. The pad material is thicker, so should last longer.
You can shim the E brake or adjust it, but keep an eye on the pad thickness, they do wear fairly quickly.

The pad number that I posted should work. ( as I stated I am not 100% sure though, but I would take it apart and look at it, your dealer should have the pads in stock, then you could compare them. If that part number is not in stock use Polaris part# 2203147, they are both E brake pads for the same E brake Assy, but I do not know what the exact difference is).
The parking brake Assy is the same one that is on a 12'.
The parking brake Assy is the same between the 12' and 13', the Polaris parts list shows the pad number fits the 12' XP/crew, but doesn't state that it fits the 13', but they have the same caliper part number?
On the 13' it states it is a parking brake Assy, that includes pads.

Curious. I haven't read about any problems with turf mode. What problems did you experience?

Yeah - what Jim said! Most of us consider the turf mode one of the most desirable and relatively trouble free features of the Rangers. What problems did you have with it? BTW, check out this for your brake pads; Ranger Brake Pad Kit

Read the installation instructions, see what all has to be done, grind pins and everything else to make them work

I might have noticed this thread to late.

I'm wondering, have you tried adjusting the parking brake first before going through this replacement process?

on my 2011 xp, I'm fairly certian that my dealer has replaced the park brake pads when it's been in there before for a transmission warranty job. Don't remember him selling me a whole assembly.

As far as the "e-brake fix" posted on this forum, I tried it twice on our old 06/07 rangers and had poor results with it. Maybe I wasn't doing it right, but it didn't work for me. also, I thought that write up was for the older 05-09 rangers that were using the 700 engine and divorced trans/diff?

To be perfectly honest I have never removed my park brake assembly on any of the 800s. I've adjusted them, but never had to replace pads myself. and when they did need replacement, it was always at the time of a transmission failure and I had the dealer do it.

One tip on prolonging pad life- NEVER use the e brake to stop the machine. not even if it's barely rolling. stop the machine with the brake, then set the e-brake. your pads will last forever.

If you haven't already, definitely adjust the park brake cable on the caliper first and see if you can get your brake to work again before replacing any hard parts. might save ya some money.
