Our season closed this past weekend. Even though the birds weren't gobbling much, I ended up killing a couple of nice birds. The wet bird was gobbling during a thunder storm and I killed him just as the rain let up. The wet picture doesn't do him justice, 12 inch beard, 1 1/8 inch spurs. The second bird had 10 1/2 inch beard and 1 inch spurs. Also came across the nasty critter in the bottom picture, 6 feet 12 rattlers.

That's a couple of nice birds.....congrat's!

Man, y'all's season is very short compared to ours. Ours opened 4/4 (youth hunt was the weeekend before that) and the last day is 5/17.........7 weeks, not including the youth hunt.

I didn't realize timber rattlers range that far west. That's a big 'un. Would've made a good meal.

In the years past our season started April 1st and went into May ( the good old days:fat:). Now it is only a week long in parts of the state, and 2 weeks in the rest. Our turkey population started to dwindle a few years ago so they have shortened and delayed the season. It is difficult to kill one in south Arkansas now. They are usually about done gobbling by the time the season starts.

We have an abundance of timber rattlers around here. I have skinned a few of them and they are tasty when fried. I just don't like to mess with them much anymore.

Looks like you had a good hunt too and killed a very nice bird.

Hate snakes. Im looking for a beat up used Taurus judge .410 revolver to keep on the ranger as a snake gun. I have a nice judge with laser grips at home in the drawer with buckshot.
Oh wait here illinois the gun has to be unloaded in a case while transporting in/on a off road vehicle....well what about my conceled carry gun??? F'n dumb laws!
