Took my 10 year old grand daughter turkey hunting for the first time Saturday. I had a few birds located and they were gobbling good on the roost Saturday morning. We went down the creek away from them and got setup. There were 3 or 4 gobbling together, I figured they were jakes but I was wrong. It took about 10 minutes to call 3 of them up and they were all good long beards. Good bird with 11 inch beard, 3/4 inch sharp spurs. The picture tells the rest of the story. I have been turkey hunting for 35 years, but this has to be the best hunt so far. :fat:

That's awesome!

Unfortunately my girls didn't have much luck. Temp's got down in the 20's on the weekend of our youth hunt here. It just shut them down and they weren't talking at all. I've found that it's hard to kill a bird that won't talk to you.

I'm taking my 10yr old nephew out next Monday for the opener...we went scouting last night and saw 4 hens and 4 toms. They started gobbling and strutting around and my nephew loved it!

That's Awesome !!

I took my 11 year old Son for our state youth hunt. We only had one of the two days to hunt but we had one gobbling on the roost twenty feet from my Son. As luck would have it he flew down over some brush and we never seen or heard him again. I could see he was looking our decoys over. We still had a great hunt though.

I wish more young people were out enjoying nature :) Do enjoy the family time and memories.
I couldn't agree more. I'm afraid our hunting sports may fade away in the future if we don't pass it down to the kids. I have been an avid hunter since I was big enough to go squirrel hunting by myself at the age of 12, but I can tell you it is truly a great feeling when my son or my grand daughter bag the prize.:fat:

Taking kids hunting is one of my greatest pleasures as a grandpa.
