Bad Maxxis Tires

Has anyone else had a problem with the factory Maxxis tires on a 2021 Ranger cracking at the lugs on the inside?
Had a flat on the left front a month ago and just bought a new tire. The tire had cracks by several lugs, but I thought maybe I didn’t get stopped soon enough.
Last week I had a flat on the left rear and got stopped before it was all the way flat. It has cracks by several lugs. Not a puncture mark.
I took the other two tires off to look them over and they have cracks by several lugs, just not leaking yet.
Taking them to my dealer tomorrow to start a case with Polaris service to see if they won’t replace them. I’m old and never seen tires crack like that. I’ve only had it 18 months and it only has 2200 miles on it.

My Dad has the Maxxis tires on his 2020 Northstar and has no problems. I've had Maxxis Ceros on my 2015 Ranger 570 Full Size for 2+ years and love them, no issues like those you describe.

It may be that you got some defective tires.

Another possibility has to do with where you store your Ranger. Some electrical equipment produces Ozone when operating. Ozone is known to damage rubber in tires. If you park close to equipment that gives off Ozone that may be part of the problem.
Understanding the link between ozone and rubber deterioration

Storage in direct sunlight also causes damage to tires.

Running tires at less than the recommended pressure can also cause damage you describe. Low tire pressure increases heat buildup in tires due to the friction of flexing. Heat damages tire rubber and causes cracking. Tire pressure should be checked at a minimum of every 30 days. You can't just look at modern tires and judge that they are properly inflated. Modern tires can be underinflated considerably and not appear to be.

This is my third ranger. It is always kept inside my shop at night! Nothing in my shop effects tires! Sorry for answering kinda rude. I am not a city boy and have done plenty of my own mechanical and maintenance work. Used to farm part time. They are a bad run of tires.
I know they are different tires, but the OE Maxxis tires that came on my 2018 developed visible cracks around the lugs when they were still pretty new. Didn't lose any air, I got rid of them anyway. Definitely not normal for any tire to have tread cracks (and I work for a major tire manufacturer).

Hello my 2021 ranger has the same exact issue with my maxxis 29” factory tires. Was dead flat last night totally unexpected and when I removed it noticed dry cracking all around the inside of tire. I also am going to call my dealership. WTF

Check all of them. My dealer didn’t think they would do anything but it’s worth a try. Definitely bad tires. Mine stays inside when I’m not using it.
Hello there I have a North Star ultimate with the 29” maxxis tires. I had one of the rear tires go bad due to all the cracking also. I have bought different rear tires since I tried to put in a tube but that only lasted a day. I am still pretty upset about it but dealer didn’t do a darn thing about it. The tires I bought are supposed to be the size. Butttt these tires aren’t!! They actually look smaller than the front tires. I am looking for a whole new set now!!! I didn’t want to spend that kind of money but Maxxis tires two thumps down!! I am hoping that there will be a recall or something 😤😤😤🤬
Why not try contacting Maxxis directly? If you had bad tires on a new car I believe the car dealer would refer you to the tire manufacturer for resolution.

I bought Tusk Terribite tires. I don’t know how they are yet. Don’t have many miles on them, but they come in the right sizes and seem ok.
I have the same issue going on right now with my 2021 polaris ranger northstar. I contacted the dealer they told me could not do anything and laughed. Then I contacted Maxxis. So far Maxxis has replaced both my front tires under warranty and as of today my back tire started leaking. I sent Maxxis an email to get the warranty started on the back tires now.

I have a 2018 XP1000. One of the Maxxis tires on my ride began to unravel from the inside. Was wondering why I was always having to put air into it. Finally, took it off to put a tube in and found the inside was disintegrating. Needless to say, I had to replace the tire. This happened after a couple thousand miles. Still plenty of tread left on the outside, but the inside gave up.
Both my brother and I had torn lugs on our Maxxis tires. Absolute junk.
Wow Guys, sorry to hear that. I have a 2018 XP 1000 that came with the Maxxis tires also. so far I have not had to add air, and thought they are good tires. maybe it's time I have a closer look!!!
my XP1000 maxxis tires require air in 1 or more tires every use. Cracks by lugs as mentioned.
They suck.
Between 6+ months (and 6+ month of lost warranty) to get a replacement throttle pedal and these tires.
This may be my last polaris product.

While I fully understand your frustration I hardly think it's fair to blame Polaris for the tire issues. More than one manufacturer of cars and trucks has had problems with contract tires that were installed on their vehicles when they were sold from the dealership; for example, we have a 2021 Toyota Highlander Hybrid that came with Bridgestone Alenza tires that lasted 21k miles before being worn out. We drive conservatively and bought a hybrid in order to improve fuel efficiency over the 20 year old 2000 Nissan Xterra we owned that was still in good overall shape. I certainly don't blame Toyota for the tire wear. Back in 2001 Ford had big issues with Firestone tires on new vehicles failing. Back in 1978 Gm had problems with Firestone Steel Belted Radials failing on their new vehicles. Obviously this type of problem isn't limited to Polaris.

I agree that losing 6 months of warranty because Polaris couldn't supply a replacement throttle pedal under warranty and I certainly would be writing to Polaris, providing documentation of the problems asking for an extension of my warranty by 6 months.

However, the fact is that all manufacturers have been plagued by supply chain problems, some due to COVID and some to other reasons. Problems with a lack of chips for electronic components, which is likely what held up your throttle pedal, are well documented and have affected almost all manufacturers. Additionally, we now live in a society where many people just don't want to work while our government provides them with continual "stimulus" checks and they are happy to live at the level that those checks provide them. I submit that almost all manufacturers, Polaris, GM, Ford, Can Am, Honda, home builders, and all other businesses have had some supply chain issues and have been unable to repair or replace or supply the needs of customers.

Bottom line, it's no skin off my nose if you blame Polaris or never buy another vehicle from them, just be aware that this type of thing could happen with any item you purchase. You might find the following link to a related search informative:

Thanks for the economy, history, covid and supply lessons. Not sure I could have figured all that out.
I made an effort with polaris regarding the lost warranty. They were not helpful.
So, it is not likely that there will be another polaris in my future.
Only 2200 miles is only 2200 depending on how it was used. It seems to me that it would be easy to tear lugs off if the tire is not used the way it was intended. No tire is indestructible. The question is what is the "intended use". That definition is up to you and Maxxis to figure out. ;)

But, if you really think it's a tire issue, I'd talk to Maxxis.
