Im curious if anyone makes a better than stock drive belt for the 400? I have had my ranger for a little over a year, and am about to put my 2nd belt on this pig. The polaris belt is cheap enough, i don't mind to put one a year on it, but if there is a better one I'd like to know.

I dont mud or beat on mine, stock size tires (an inch narrower on back) GBC big horn equivalent. Lots of on road miles around the farm, Some light mud encountered when working hunting dogs, and hunting. i basically look at replacing it when it kind of bumps as I ease into the throttle.

Whats your thoughts

To be honest...I'm a little surprised that you've even had to replace your belt considering the way your rig is setup and the style of riding you do! Do you ever pull a trailer behind it or anything like that? Personal Opinion: Dayco makes a great belt; I've always been happy with their drive belts...

What year is your Ranger 400?

I agree with the above. You might need to consider using low range more often.

But with that being said, I have always been a fan of the OEM belt, but I've had very good luck so far out of the Gates C-12 (carbon fiber) belt that I've been running on my RZR. It's less than half the cost of OEM and has lasted longer than OEM and is still going (knock on wood).

I had a feeling someone woudl chime in on the Gates belts. I guess I need to just give one a shot and see how I like them. I've been a little biased in teh past because I absolutely HATE their serpentine belts! lol

I don't believe gates offers the c12 for the 400, or i would be running it. They do offer a standard belt. I run the standard and haven't had any problems on it yet.. Knock on wood haha

I saw the G-Force (Kevlar) belt listed for the '10-'11 model as part # 20G4022. However I do NOT recommend using the Kevlar belt. I have heard bad things about the Kevlar cords wearing grooves in the clutch sheaves.

If they made a carbon version, it would be part #20C4022 for the '10-'11 model, but I can't find that being a valid part number, so you may be correct about them not making the carbon one for the 400.

I pieced this together from the Gates catalog. The forum is not letting me post it as I had it spaced, but you get the idea.

engine year OEM belt G-Force C-12 Standard

Im guessing putting the 3rd belt on in 287hrs is not common? haha. I would say my wife tooling around the yard/farm in high is likely a big part of the issue, and possibly using it to "work" young horses.

Someone asked what year this thing is, It is a '10

Yeap, a lot of start/stop and low speed driving in high range is hard on a belt. It's sort of counterintuitive because to those who aren't familiar with teh CVT system, it seems like "babying" it would be easy on the whole drivetrain.....but not true for the belt.

Sooooo I just looked over Gates' full 2015 catalog and wouldn't you know it...no belts for the Ranger 570...not Kevlar...not Carbon...

Actually this is the same issue I had with Dayco (my preferred belt manufacturer)...they didn't make one for the Ranger 570 either so I ended up buying an OEM...
