got a bolt seized up in bottom rear hub on 2010 ranger hd how can I get it out without heat or is it the only way sprayed p b on it beat nut with hammer but it wont budge help guys T&S :apologetic:
Yesterday I cut all 4 bolts off to get my rear hubs out for my trans/engine removal. I figure every time I rebuild the front or rear suspension, count on having at least 3 or 4 bolts frozen (rusted) in the sleeves.
The only way to get them out is to torch them off (carefully) or use a cutoff wheel on a diegrinder or angle grinder. Then spread the ears apart some, and pry the hub out.
I'm fairly lucky in the fact I invested in a plasma cutter a couple years back and thats how I cut all those bolts off now. cutoff wheel is by far the safest bet if you don't have a torch/plasma cutter, or if you're hands not so steady.
I had one froze in the rear bearing hub a couple years ago.......Holy moley ! I ended up cutting the head off and with a torch (be careful of to much heat or it will distort the end in the press) and a huge press it was.........took about a solid hour to get it out. I had beat on it for an hour with PB Blaster on it before going to the heat. It was absolutely the WORST jammed **** I ever saw......... Go back in with Never Seize and a 1/4 28 grease zerk and keep it greased...........Heat is inevitable to get that ***** a part.....
Either use a liberal coating of anti-seize or do like I did and add zerk fittings to the carrier. No more frozen bolts and much greater bushing life. I had to replace the carriers on my '06 because they had become egg-shaped. No signs of wear to those either after adding the zerks.
I had an a-arm bolt stuck, shot it with PB because that's what you do but don't think it got to where it needed to be, used my cordless impact to spin the bolt then hit it with an air chisel and a punch bit, it took a little back and forth but did get it out. Copious amounts of good quality marine grade no-seize when it went back together, also be sure to use a torque wrench and proper torque.
I've had pretty good luck with rusty/stuck bolts by bouncing a bit with a pneumatic air hammer on the head of the stuck bolt or the side of a stuck nut. Somehow, the vibration seems to help break the rust free. Helps to pre soak them for a day or two with PB Blaster first. Doesn't work every time, but for me it works more often than not.
soon as I get new ones from chris ball I will tackle it right now its still on there working okay still running original bushings to guys and they believe it or not they don't look bad no slop or play just take them out every year and grease them but I forgot this year and one froze up will let ya know how it goes T&S its a 2010 800 hd
