I have a 19 Northstar with a DuraClutch primary installed. For some reason I cannot get the belt alignment correct. At this rate I am going to wear out the bolts trying to make this drive and shift correctly.

I have removed all of the secondary shims and the belt is still dragging the inside of the primary near the engine. From my research I have found a few people mention this issue but none ever came back to follow up with the resolution.

Has anyone seen this? Any ideas what could be going on? I am about at my wits end with this. It seems so simple but I am out of adjustments as far as I know.

Thanks

I think I would contact Duraclutch (SVI). In the past they have been pretty good with customer care.

I'm not sure about the following:
I think Duraclutch was selling only primaries for a while without secondaries. When I got mine it came with both. Perhaps the secondary you have isn't compatible with your Dura primary.

It doesn't matter on a Duraclutch if the belt is against the sheave. At idle the sheaves are not supposed to be moving.

That being said I have had a problem on some 1000s with being hard to shift after installing a Duraclutch. At idle the secondary is turning when, in my opinion, it shouldn't. I've contacted them about it and they said that Polaris' design allows for some force to be put on the secondary and that their clutches are within that spec. I'd give them a call.

With the duraclutch the belt touches both sides, you are attempting to align the primary clutch within the float built in the primary so the clutches are not touching the thrust washers inside the clutch and cause a drag.
if a new clutch, run it 60 miles or so before you do anything about it

Thanks for the comments. My clutch only came with the primary and the belt when purchased. I had it for awhile before installing, so not sure when they switched.

I am going to check the motor and transmission alignment first. If that is good, Todd had been kind enough to provide me some additional information/options. Once the tool arrives I will have a better idea hopefully.

It has never shifted great from new even with the factory primary and fiddling with shims and alignment of the secondary. So, I suppose it's possible it's out of alignment just enough to cause a problem, maybe?
