Hey guys, I've been lurking for quite some time and am very interested in the 900 as an upgrade for my teryx in the near future. The toss up is between the 900 and viking. I'm not here to ask about "viking vs ranger" as they are both capable with pluses and minuses to both. Here is my question after many months of reading on the xp.

1. Front and rear end failure, mainly the turf mode. This mode is like 75% of the vote towards the xp as my teryx gives my lawn hell just with 12x27 bear claws and I fully plan on terms no matter my next rig. I do a lot of yard work as I don't have a tractor the utv is my work horse. I also take good care of my lawn. Are people only losing turf mode during rough driving or normal? Plus, are people losing diff sat all?
2. The infamous reverse chain. I plow all winter with a 72" plow in vt so we get our fair share of snow from oct.-April. That would be the roughest reversing it could see but I would occasionally need it in some mud. I am no mudder by any stretch so don't let the terms fool ya. I just love the traction and the look can't be replaced. Is the chain something I need to worry about or is it all in my head. A $1,500 repair bill may be par for the course for some but for me would be a major blow.

Now I ask all this witha grain of salt. People would say the 2008 teryx was a major flop with all kinds of flaws. However, I've grown to love mine and have not had a single issue besides having to choke and let it warm up for 5-6 min before I can leave it alone. So I know a lot of issues are definitely self inflicted. Am I to worry about these things since they're rare and self inflicted? I can't wait for a full three seats to be able to bring both kids 2 & 4 comfortably.

I have a 2013 Xp900 le with close to 4300 miles. Drive 95% turf mode. Have had zero problems with turf mode, or any part of the machine. All bushings and bearing still good. Though I have read a few folks have had trouble with turf mode, these problems seem pretty rare. No help on the reverse chain. Don't do any backing up under stress. Good luck with your decision.:excitement::encouragement:

You should be just fine with 28" terms and a small bracket lift

Paul, my drive train is 100% stock and I've had no issues. I've pulled logs and a heavy trailers (way over my limit). I don't have as many miles as others (< 500) but so far, so good.

Paul, I have 400 hours and nearly 4000 miles on my 2013 900 XP and the only issue I had was early on was a EPS Senor. That was covered under warranty with a updated sensor no more issues to date. I run mostly turf mode no issues what so ever.

They have been putting turf mode on these things since at least the '05 Ranger (if not before) and I've heard of very few issues with it. It's a great feature to have if you use it for work at all.

I wanted to thank everyone for all the replies. It really helps to get the real world feedback on these possible issues. The turf mode is increasingly important to me especially as summer approaches and I've already been tearing up the lawn! These really seem to be the only words I have about the XP in comparing to the Viking. I'm looking forward to a nice quiet ride where I can hold all 3 kids. As soon as the Budget Committee approve the purchase aka wifey, there will surely be an XP in my garage.

Well, since you mentioned ride, I have to say that people that ride in the passenger seat of my Ranger start off warning me about rocks, holes, dips, etc. After a while they realize the ride is very nice even though I'm hitting everything they are warning me about. It really is quite a good suspension.
