Cvs or something in rear diff

2011 800 xp, 400miles on it. Symptom is what feels like intermittent binding in rear end. Typically happens with load in bed when low speed turning in all drive modes. Creates resistance and vibration and shake till it frees up (typically after driving straight for a few hundred feet).

Jacked up rear and have a clunking when rotating one wheel front to back (see video) and when cranking wheels opposite ways back and forth it looks like the inner cvs are moving up and down 1/8" or so at the rear diff.

Haven't had any clicking when turning but not sure if that is only a frt wheel cv symptom. The other symptom I see when the rear is lifted is when I run in fwd then stop and run in reverse I get a clunking 3-4 times as the wheels start to turn. No noises in reverse when driving it, just noticed when in the air in the shop (guess it could be cvs as they're at a different angle on the jack.

Thoughts on other tests to see what might be my cause? Thx

It would require a bit of work, but if only one side is affected, you could always swap axles from one side to the other and check it that way. That should definitely tell you if it's an axle (CV) or more serious issue inside the diff'.

Is that video in neutral or in gear?

Binding rear end

That was in gear. When I put it in neutral either tire has 2-3" of rotation before the other side starts to turn, the clunk in the rear diff is gone and I get a lower pitched clunk up in the trans if I rotate back/forth quickly. Still get some vertical play where the rear axle inner CVs mate with the rear diff.

Haven't opened up the clutch cover yet but guess I will as it could be belt/clutch related too.

I have had more than my share of broke cvs's and that sounds more like something in the diff i have a 12 800 also and it doesnt do that jacked up
