The dealership I bought my Ranger from said that I need to bring it in at 10 hours for a tune-up and fluid check, etc. that costs $99!!!!!

They indicated that the 6 month warranty would be voided if I did notdo this. This seems ridiculous. Anyone know if this is true or just a typical dealer scam?

I think even the manual doesnt recommend a tune-up until 50 hrs, although I don't have it in front of me to confirm.

I believe the 10 hour thing is the break-in period. Most dealers that I've ever dealt with did the break-in service for free.

It's always amazing what some dealers will do to make a few extra bucks. There is nothing in the warranty that says you have to take it to the dealer for anything. Personally, I'd follow the owners manual as far as all maintainence issues. If your handy, do everything youself and save a bunch of money...just keep all the receipts. Good Luck, Mike

I bought my Ranger last Nov. and my dealer and also the manuel says 25 hrs than bring it in for a complete check up and that includes more than just fluid changes, it includes checking clutch for alignment, plus alot more checks or it should.

Buy the manual and do it yourself, at least that's what I did. I'm fairly mechanical and have a shop and like doing the service myself if possible. Either way a manual should be the first thing you buy for a Ranger, lots of good info.

my manual says 25hrs for break in before fluid changes. My dealer said 300 bucks for the "10hr" service. Including R&R differencial fluids etc. I think the 10 hour thing is a "marketing" thing with the dealer.
not planning on doing anything til 25hrs, then I will do the service myself.

My dealer did a 10 hour check for free. He changed all the fluids and filters at 25.
