I don't see the point. There is untapped HP potential in the 900.

Overall, I do believe the units (rangers, etc.) will continue to climb in horsepower overtime.

I believe there will be a 1000 Ranger in the next couple of years, possibly August/September 2016 for the 2017 model year.
Polaris just introduced the 1000 Sportsman, and they have the 1000 RZR.
Engine displacement and horsepower are always getting bumped up some ( 500, 500HO/900, 900HO) it's a huge purchasing point for most people.
It is the next step in evalution.:encouragement:
Like somebody said, they detune these Rangers with the 900 engine, what would be the point of a 1k. I would say its safe to assume there will eventually be a 1k Ranger, but probably not for a few years yet. They will keep bumping up the HP until they hit about 75 or so (reliable power output for a 900 intended to work) THEN release the 1K

Kind of Off Topic but that new 1000 sportsman is an absolute monster. I traded off an 850 HO with a bunch of clutch work and NO WAY would it touch the new 1k
Did I am true ? but after ride the 900 ho 2015 , I find the 8 news hp on top of the band at 7100 rpm , my 900 run in 6300 rpm range , the new 900ho lost mid range torque , I don`t need those kind of power
I love the 68HP in my 2015 Ranger 900.
I can only guess how much I'd love a 1000cc engine in a Ranger pumping out 80+ horsepower.

Spinning and shredding tires from a dead stop with lots of low end torque, turning bigtires effortlessly in peanut butter mud, and quick, crisp throttle response sounds like a winner to me.
Id like to see 150hp.
I'd be surprised if there's not a 1000cc Ranger at SOME point in the near future.....although probably not for the 2016 model year, which is only 6 months away. Despite the fact that the hp will be horrendously low for a 1000cc engine, it's a marketing strategy that everyone is falling into. There will always be people that will trade their 1 year old machine just because something newer and better has come out. Like the old saying goes, "build it and they will come".

I think at some time there will be a 1200 and it may be the size of a Ford Ranger. Like anything else, they start out simple and morph into something massive and then the go away. Datsun 240Z, Miata etc. Heck just look at the ATV and motorcycle market. ATV's started with 250's, now they're 800's and 1000's. Bikes started similar and now they're 2400's. Most bike riders think you need a 1000 pound, 100 plus CI bike to get out of the county. 30 years ago we were going cross country on 500 singles and loving it. I now I was.
People, Americans especially are obsessed with having more digits on their hoods.
Although it's certainly possible and probable, there would likely have to be some other changes to the Ranger line if they were to put more ponies under the hood (or bed!). Unlike the RZRs which are designed to tote either 2 or 4 warm bodies and lunch, the Rangers are designed to carry either 3 or 6 folks, lunch and dinner, PLUS another 1500 lbs in the bed, PLUS do all that while pulling a 2000 lb trailer. We're breaking axels, blowing trannys, wearing out springs and shocks, and bending frames now! More power is going to break stuff faster so Po will have to beef up a lot of components. $$$$$ Did anyone notice the price hike when the Rangers went from 800 to 900? You can already use the same fist full of cash to buy a 68-HP Polaris Northstar or a new 271-HP Jeep Wrangler Sport. Not a whole lot more that Polaris can do with the Ranger before they price themselves out of the market.

...but then I had the same thoughts before they introduced the 900 Rangers... :black_eyed:
There will definitely be a 1k ranger in the future... not sure about 2016 as I think there is still room for more power to come from the 900.
I don't think they can go over 999cc's and still be classified as a UTV.

There's already a 1000 Commander, and the 1000 Prowler has been around for several years........although the actual engine size of both might be under 1000cc's.

They are both under the 1000cc mark
Forde brings up a valid point concerning MSRP jumping after displacement / HP increases. I remember how proud Polaris got of the 800 compared to what I paid for my 2007 700.
I didn't think a 900 would come and it did. So yes I bet a 1 k will come but I'm stick w mine for a while, I got rid of 800 w 1100 miles for a 900 then put 660miles and got a 900 crew. I have it just like I want it!

In my opinion the 800 to 900 switch was useful and provided a major change in how the machine performed and how much smoother and quieter it became. Having said that, I don't see the advantage to pushing the range to the 1000 motor. My ranger crew 900 has more power than I can really use in off road situations as it is. The chassis setup on a ranger which handles better than models in the past, doesn't really support more horsepower. In the end though, if they follow the same suit that they've done in the past, it will eventually happen.
I think it will take another MFG to push them to it, king of the mountain thing, might see a 1200RZR first.
