Mine started the death knock then seized up,,temp never got hot nor any indications of a problem till it did this,, Ive rebuilt engines on different vehicles but this will be my first Polaris,, just replaced the reverser chain in the tranny, wasnt that bad of a job. I have built a boat load of Kawi v twins and rhino 660 and 700 engines and one 800 Polaris engine, by far the Polaris is the easiest to build. Two pieces of advice, get a crank either from Polaris or hot cranks or whatever they call it from Crankworks that has been pinned and welded if you replacing crank, the oil pump has to be primed or the hydraulic lifters will make a racket and lastly, get a service manual and go by it. Extremely easy engine to build.

Thanks guys,, upon inspection found that a rod cap had broken causing the piston to drop, broke a sleeve, the crank is shot, as well as pistons,, case and head appears fine..My question now is are RZR parts compatible with the Ranger motor? could I replace the 800 top end with a 900??? No replacement for displacement right???

also, how do you prime the oil pump?
no... the 900 is a completely different engine. I bought a crate motor for my 2010 800 crew when it blew a rod bearing. Cost was $1,950.00 with a core exchange that has good cases. Crate motor came with a 6 month warranty. I traded it in on a 2015 Crew when the motor was replaced so I can't comment on the longevity of the crate motor. The dealer/tech that did the swap said it looked good, tight and done properly.
