I have an 05 ranger 700 that is melting all of the plastics in front of the motor. I did a search and found a few people that have heat problems but this seems much more severe. I just finished checking the plugs and they are bright white-looks too lean. I dont have any engine, exaust or intake mods-all stock. The wrench light is not on or flashing (only on with key on engine off). Is there a way to check for diag codes on an 05? Any input would be great. Also, if anyone knows of a link to a pdf service manual that would be fantastic.

Welcome to PRC! You can check for diag codes, by doing the following:

Turn the key on
Turn the key off
Turn the key on
Turn the key off
Turn the key on (and leave it on this time)

You have to do the sequence fairly quick. Count the number of blinks. When it blinks 6 times, then pauses and blinks 1 more...then the diag is over. If you get anything else other than 6-1, post the number of blinks and I'll let you know what the blink codes mean.

Thanks for the quick response. I got the 6-1 so there arent any codes stored. I think I may have a fuel pressure problem, but my pressure gauge is at home (the ranger stays at the cabin). The heat has been getting progressively worse, so Im thinking that it may be a clogged fuel filter-the pump sounds pretty stong. We wont be back at the cabin for at least a few weeks but I will let you know what I find. Thanks again!

Will that trick work on a 06 sportsman 450 and would the codes mean the same thing?

Taylor,
Sorry I can't be of any help, with your sportsman. Hopefully, someone else will chime in.

We were having problems with a ranger running poorly this weekend and pulled the plugs and found the same thing. Ashy white on both plugs. We called a friend who is a service manager at a dealer and he told us that is was normal for the ranger plugs to be that white and that it was not the cause of the problems. We never did figure it out and he was going to take it to the dealer this week.
