While driving my 2012 800 crew the other day it lost power and the engine quit entirely. Once stopped I tried to start the engine to no avail. Engine was full of oil and water temp was at 185. The engine would not turn over. After towing it home and sitting for a few minutes the engine would turn over but not start. This ranger has been serviced regularly, never mistreated and pretty much babied on the trails. Any help would be appreciated? I do have extended warranty but was told by a fellow crew owner that it won't cover the engine? The dealership I bought the unit from has been saying the units have been sunk and want to charge people 5 grand for a total engine replacement? I think they are trying to get out of doing the work? Also this same dealership has been selling warranties to customers and not paying the maker. Polaris ,Yamaha, and others? Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks:mad-new:

I had engine replaced under the extended warranty. Did you not get a detailed copy of the warranty when you bought it? Yes if the engine was dirt or water in it the can deny but if that is not the case you should be ok. Just make sure you do not bring it in with a lift or larger than stock tires.

I serious doubt the issue is catastrophic in nature, i.e., need to change out the engine. I’m a little puzzled you would question contacting the dealer and going the warranty route as that is the central purpose of having it, but may not fully understand your specific situation/concern. Based on the information you have provided, I would think it is a fuel (fuel pump) and/or charging/electrical.

There are two issues here, the simpler one is the engine quitting .Electrical/fuel , loose/ broken wires .Something than can be repaired.
The Big One is the claim you make about Dealer selling extended Warranties , pocketing $ , not paying the insurance provider.
That claim, if backed by proof, is a case for your state's Attorney General , as it is Fraudulent .

(1) Don't ever take your machine to that dealer.
(2) Determine if it's getting fuel. The most common issues for that model were TPS and IAC wires problems (which would normally only make them run rough and did not normally keep them from starting at all), and vapor locking due to bad or weak fuel pumps.

As a copy/paste "The dealership I bought the unit from has been saying the units have been sunk and want to charge people 5 grand for a total engine replacement?", so does this imply (picking on the word sunk) they believe your unit has been underwater and that is raising the concern about warranty? Again, I may be reading this incorrectly, just trying to understand it more fully.

I would check the electrical system for broken wires etc. If everything checks out good on the electrical/fuel system then I would perform a compression/leak down test. Sounds like it is an electrical issue, but if it does turn into an engine problem we will be glad to help. We sell a complete remanufactured crate engine for your unit backed with a 90 day limited warranty. Let us know what you find? We will be glad to help! www.nflowmotorsports.com

Yeah, if it HAS been sunk/submerged, then this is an entirely different diagnostic process..........and I wouldn't cover it under warranty either if I were them.

He is not saying HIS engine was submerged, but that Dealer is trying to get out of Warranty repairs to others by claiming their engines were submerged. Also says Dealer selling extended Warranties, pocketing the cash. State Attorney General issue ?

I agree, there is an issue if someone is falsely claiming something, assuming this is the case and thus this matter should elevated, I would.

I'm saying the dealer is using this as an excuse to not do any warranty work on the unit. I myself am calling Polaris today to make sure my warranty was paid for by the dealer. Something is real fishy here! And no my ranger has never been sunk/submerged! Lol!

I have an aftermarket warranty with Ranger too. They stated, and I asked a bunch of questions, that it was warrantied through my aftermarket company it was covered as long as the motor case wasn't opened and it wasn't snorkeled. Check the basics first, plug wires, ecu module connections under middle seat. Do you hear the fuel pump when you turn the ignition on, and so on. Like Commaderjones said, DO NOT go back to the dealership! Let us know what you find...
