This is normal for the Ranger. But as mentioned above, check the plugs for Rich/Lean condition.

I'll have to think on this because I'm not sure how much it matters: What octane of fuel are you running?

A LOT of bikes, quads, and SXS's do this. The header material is VERY thin to keep weight down, so it doesn't take much to get it hot. The glow will typically disappear when you give it some gas.

Yeap, white plugs are not good......and melting plastic is even worse.

How many hours are on the machine, and when did the problem start? I assume that you have done NO mod's to it?

If it is glowing all the way to the muffler (which is NOT normal, contrary to my previous statement), the first thing that comes to mind is maybe a mouse built a nest in your exhaust over the winter. I know you said that you have replaced the muffler, but maybe you need to check for obstruction a little further upstream???

There is approx 150 hrs on the bike, it started a month ago and we took the spark catcher out of the muffler it was full of the packing from the muffler and we replaced the muffler with a new one..that didn't help still heated and then the intake gasket had to be replaced due to the heating and now still same problem....it's been at our local polaris dealer multiple times this month they are stumped or don't care...not sure but it's frustrating....nothing shows up on there computer

I'd remove the muffler and run it to see if it still gets hot.

Also check the mid pipe all the way to the head to make sure it isn't obstructed. I know that is highly unlikely, but if a mouse was using that material to make a nest, there's no telling how far up the pipe he went.

Mine does it as well. At the header portion where the exhaust starts. I didn't have the little aluminum shield that typically mounts above it on (cheap screw in to plastic) .... Low and behold I caught the whole back plastic on fire lol. My machine only has 35 hrs and 350 miles on it. Put the square little shield back on, haven't drove it anymore since. Not sure if that will help.
