Is there a big difference in the fluids that go in the front gear case vs the rear gear case. I changed the front this weekend and the transmission but noticed that rear gear case was low but ok and I didn't have the right fluid to change out the rear so I left it alone. One more question, how would a gear case get low on fluid anyways? The dealer has done all the work on my ranger so far until this weekend.

Unless theres a really small leak the only way I see that it could be low is if the dealer didn't fill it up to the proper level. As far as the fluids themselves, I'm running the same fluid in the front and back with no problems. I'm running the Lucas 75/90 in both diffs.

Well I used the polaris oil and they recommend that you use their oils but a differnt fluid for front and rear. My friend thought is was so they could just sell you another bottle of oil instead of using the same for both. Can you pick up Lucas oil at the auto parts store?

Thanks Brian.

Alot of auto parts places do carry the stuff. The only problem I had around with stores around here was getting the 75/90. It seemed that they had alot of other Lucas fluids but not the 75/90. If they don't have it on the shelf they might be able to order it in for ya. Dwayne Lucas was working on getting us hooked up on a web site so we could order all the Lucas ATV fluids from there. I'm not sure whats going on with that.

If you thought your rearend was low due to the level not being up to the fill plug you were probably not low. The fill plug is not where the level should be. When changing the rearend oil and adding in the new 18 oz's it will be below the fill plug.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Dwayne A friend and I changed my xp 07 over to lucas oil two nites ago and boy does it take some doing. Polaris was not very friendly when they set up there machine. Not only that but when taking off the oil filter the oil runs all over the bottom plate.Needs to be set up a little better. Had to put front oil in through the vent tube.
