Funny thing happened when installing the Horn

I was having trouble figuring out where to install the horn kit that I had just purchased from the dealer. There were two "Y" connectors and in the middle a male/female plug. The instructions did not help and I could not figure out where to plug in the male/female plug. So back to the dealer I went to ask for someone to show me what I seemed to be missing.

Since I was a female Guy #1 said to me: "you plug in in under the hood!" Um, duh! was my response and I asked for him to show me. Well he couldn't see a place either. I asked for someone from service to come show me. Since I bought it from the dealer and they wanted to charge me for the install, they should know where to plug it in right?? WRONG!!

Service Guy #2 said to me: "Um, we have never installed this horn kit yet so let me look." I said "so I would've paid for your learning curve if I let you install it? hmmmm" he then exclaimed "oh you plug it in over here on the left" I continued to ask him what is that plug and he said it was a dummy plug. Keep in mind, I'm new to this mechanical stuff and it made sense to me at that moment.

So I went home, plugged it in per Guy #2's recommendation and then I pressed the horn to test it and the Ranger would start right up. No need to put your foot on the brake anymore and no key needed. UM - DON'T THINK THAT IS THE WAY THE HORN SHOULD WORK!!!

So in the end, I cut off the male/female plug and added some round flat connectors and screwed them onto the power bar. (sorry my technical lingo is off). Everything works great now...BEEP BEEP

Thats the way you get help from them LOL ;-)
Welcome to the forum Susan, a very nice looking Ranger you have. If you get the time post more pics of it.
That is an awsome story. Way to go girl. By the way, nice lookin ride and welcome to PRC.
Susan,

Welcome to PRC. Thanks for the laugh, I was just shaking my head at the suggestions you were getting!! The phrase "I don't know" would have made all the difference to those 2 guys! Tell you what, go back to the dealer and offer to "install" the next horn kit for them!!!! LOL!!
Nice looking XP! I always cringe when I go in a service department and the average age of the "mechanics" is about 17[;)][:)]
nice Ranger enjoyed story.[:D][:D][:D][:D]
Welcome to the PRC Susan.
Sounds like they are the "if it dont fit, force it" types [:D]
Welcome to the forum Susan. Was there an inline fuse with your horn kit ? If not, it is something you should strongly consider. If the wire off the power bar was to short and there is no fuse for protection it could be dangerous. Sorry if you were already aware.

Thank you for all the WELCOMES!

Inline fuse? Don't know what that is so don't be sorry. But I shall check it out. I'm still learning mechanics 101 of all my toys.[:D]
Welcome,

Ha..Ha....
Welcome Susan. Sounds like you did good. No big deal to add a in line fuse. Just cut it in your hot wire going from your power source to your horn.
I got a chuckle out of that, sounds typical of more shops than a polaris shop. And to think someone asked how to avoid hitting the brake to start their unit, blow the horn of course....
Susan welcome to PRC and we enjoyed your story about the truly competant? supposed mechanics at the dealer. Glad you got it figured out on your own.
Soon you'll be laughing at the lack of knowledge they have of your knowledge. Hang in there girl.
