I have a 2015 XP900 and mostly use it for plowing in the winter. I have snowmobiles and the trails around my house get beat up so I would like to purchase a 5-6ft wide drag with a pan to level and smooth the trails.

I have researched the tracks and the Tatou 4S camoplast seem to be the best all around track. I think its going to work well once the trails get packed down enough so the tracks can ride on top. I don't think its going to work as well for fresh snow conditions but great otherwise. Road crossings may get a bit sketchy.

I am thinking I may have to beef up the clutching to a duraclutch for heavy duty applications but not sure about anything else? I have heard that the snow dust can clog the intake to the clutch after a while and cause it to get hot? Not sure if this intake would need to be relocated or not, don't really want it in the cab due to the noise.

Anyone have any experience grooming with a ranger on tracks? Or how much pulling power you may have on fresh or packed trails? I am not ready to spend the money on the tracks and groomer if it is too much for the ranger.

YES Tatou 4S camoplast seem to be the best all around track , don`t worry about fresh snow , its better than most snowmobile , Not sure if this intake would need to be relocated , you have to put in cab , I am thinking I may have to beef up the clutching to a duraclutch for heavy duty applications , it good plus value , but you don`t need it , last year I have QSC cluth kit on , this year come with standart polaris

I had a 2010 Ranger 800 xp with the Polaris tracks that did an awesome job of dragging our snowmobile trails. I had a 10inch 6ft long steel I beam I used for breaking and grooming and it worked great! You would be amazed at the amount of snow you can pull behind you with tracks. My buddy had the same machine with the Tatou 4s tracks and it was unstoppable!! I now have a Kawasaki Teryx4 with the Tatou 4s tracks and I have been grooming trails all winter.. The newer Tatou 4s are really incredible on any machine!

We have had a great winter in eastern maine this year with close to 4 ft still on the ground. Teet, I put a simple EPI clutch kit in my Ranger and it worked awesome..I never had a single issue while running my tracks. Not certain if it was really nessasary, but figured it could not hurt.

I think mine did a great job. The biggest difference I noticed was as soon as I pressed the gas pedal, the clutch engaged very quickly with no hesitation..I installed the EPI clutch kit on my Ranger and an atv I had with tracks..Never had an issue with either machine... Bill

I will check in to EPI also. I like the offset idea Pierre has on the hitch. nice to be able to get the edges with it.

I know a guy in NY who builds drags and he is going to set one up for us to accommodate the ranger or small pulling vehicle. he builds them for old forge NY and has 20+ years experience with drags. He makes removable cutter bars that way you can just pan rather than cutting every time you groom. Some ares cut their base right to nothing where the idea is to pack it in so you have snow to work with.

I am just glad to hear the ranger is capable of pulling the drag with tracks.

Sounds like Tatou 4S or the Polaris tracks are the best ones to get? These ones have best luck going through fresh snow and climbing hills without digging itself in a hole.

Teet... I would only consider the newer version( 2012 and up) of the Camoplast Tatou 4s, or the new Polaris tracks, which are now the Camoplast Tatou 4s......You will not be dissapointed! If you are interested you can go to YOUTUBE and type KAWASKI TERYX 4S TRACKS in the search bar and watch a video we made of the TATOUS in action..we are running in over 3 feet of powder which is the least desiriable of conditions..My buddy has a Rzr 800 with the old style Polaris tracks...I had to break trail while pulling a small drag in order for him to follow and not get stuck.......(sorry..I don't know how to post the link)

I've had a great year grooming with mine. Just took the tracks off 2 weeks ago (hard to let go of winter after such a great one!).

So far I haven't felt I needed a clutch kit, but I'm seriously considering going the Duraclutch route if I do. Having engine braking again would be nice on some of my steep terrain.
