my roof is 1-1/2 inches over the rails on the sides to stop water from dumping into cab,front overhang is 4inches to stop water and also going to mount lights under it to help protect,back is 6inches over again water and my speakers hang out and wanted to protect them as well from water,even though there marine grade and linexed there were costly.ive got $800.00 in stereo equip.

Okay so I am going to use the 1 1/2 inch 2 hole rigid conduit straps to hold the top on. How many did you guys use on it. It looks like 4 would be enough but I do trailer this thing a lot of miles hunting and i don't want the top to get pulled off. I was going to put one on all 4 corners where the rollcage has the 45 degree bend. Do you think that is enough or do I need to put one in the very front and rear as well??

I am using 3/8 lexan for the top.

 

I went with 8.
2 for each pipe, but I wanted to be able to stand on mine- which doesn't sound like a concern if you are using Lexan.

The rears pipe sit a tad lower so a spacer will be needed to make up the difference. (at least it did on my 09 xp)

 

OOBUCK is correct i used 8 i have trailered mine and not a issue,Recommend not putting DUPLICOLOR OR OTHER BRAND on the actual bolts untill you drive for several outtings as to i kept tighting mine up untill i got it fully secure,otherwise you will have to chip it off the bolts and nuts to tighten,

 

Is that you used 8 on the crew model. Mine is the standard cab do you think I need 2 on each bar for it.

 

Would you be able to post the overall dimensions for the roof and the windshield mount?

My father is a woodworker and wants to build the roof, windshield, and rear bulkhead but doesnt want to start without knowing the dimensions first.

Well, read all the posts here on this and decided to make my own top.
3/4 ply with 1/2" thick acrylic skylight. Headliner with indoor outdoor carpet and rubber pad.
6 coats duraliner finish.
P clamp connection to stock rollbar
I ran a loom with wiring under the headliner to the rear overhang of top, (for lights yet to be installed) and whatever else I might need power for...

I am pleased...no rattles.

For the back at the bottom half I used 3/4 ply coated as above bolted to the seat frame. the top half is 1/2" acrylic that I took to a shop to bend using my template. Doors for now are Polaris soft cab canvas doors....not really what i like...think I will engineer a plywood removeable set with window.

Windshield is the best but I didnt make it...premium tip out glass, (still have to put on wiper), purchased from another member of this site...

Still working on a flip down half windshield on a piano hinge to accompany my Polaris half windshield, just looking for a local supplier who has 3/16 plexiglass or Polycarbonate.

Sure, here it is. I used four hoseclamps from our local machine shop. It is so secure, if I hit it against a tree, it will likely bend my rollcage! LOL!!!

I think the rubber lined/coated hose clamps are the most secure and the easiest to use.

I am guessing that your top has a seam in it where the plywood comes together, how did you attach the 2 pieces

 

Just bumping this old thread up. I see a lot of pics are removed. I just got Ranger 800 xp with a custom back seat and cage so a roof will have to be home made.

 

That's why I try not to ever use photo bucket. If you do anything to the pics there, they are gone here.

 

I have a custom cage that curves down in the front and I would like a metal that I can bend by hand to follow the curve. I want to be able to trailer it long miles and leave it on always. Suggestions?

 

This is what I did (More for utility than anything else) but it worked well, is very light, and if it rained I covered with a small tarp using bungee cords to tie it down. The main reason I did this was for the added storage, I have pictures of the machine with rakes, shovels, and a hoe strapped to the top. The dents in the sides were an accident and the top wasn't designed that way,:smug: I've since narrowed the roof about 6 inches, so trees on the narrow trail shouldn't affect it again, at least that's my hope.

 

Lots of nice roofs and ideas here. My roof has seen a lot of modifications, but this is it for now. It's 1/4" aluminum that's broke 45deg in front and 30 and 40 deg in the back. The box on top is actually 3 box's. The outer two are for the 8" woofers and the center is for the 4- 6" speakers.

I used 5/16" u bolts in fuel line to hold the roof on and 1/2 rubber belting to keep the roof away from the roll bar.

The box to the left of the radio is the controller for the LED lights. You have a choice of 16 different colors that can be dimmed or brightened. You can pick one color and turn it on, like white or red for night use. You can also let it fade through all the colors, set one color to strobe with sound, or fade / strobe through all the colors to sound.
