I'm rebuilding a rear cv so I can have a spare. The band on the outboard end came off and the cv got filled with mud. I disassembled it and cleaned it yesterday. Got new bands and just need to reassemble it. How much grease should I put in it?

If you have a service manual, there is a spec' (in ounces) listed in there.
Sometimes I forget I have a service manual. It's more fun to ask you guys and read the responses anyway.

Service manual says Rear outer capacity is 90g. 90g=3.17oz or 93.75ml

So fill it till it leaks isn't the right answer? :)
Hahahaha.....not in this case. If you filled it completely, it probably wouldn't make it more than 10 miles (depending on speed and temp) before it exploded. Murphy's Law......it would make it just far enough that you wouldn't have cell service and farther than you can walk back before dark.

It's good that threads like this come up because "fill it until it leaks" probably would have been my approach. I've never had to fix anything CV related before. I'm definitely still in a learning mode.

You'd be suprised by how much 4oz of grease fills the cv. I used a jello shot syringe and got the grease in every nook and cranny. I had both sides of the cv covered in grease.
