PRC Team,
i need some advice on replacement shocks for a 2009 Ranger HD. This weekend I noticed my front passenger shock was bottomed out when parked. The novo mats in the rear are holding up well. I know the front stocks normally do not hold up but these have lasted about 5 years. The bumpers are wore out on the fronts as well. I have read of replacement shock bumper threads and such but am now in need of 2 new front shocks. I know there are some options out there, but I don't want to break the bank. There seem to be a lot of manufacturers but not a lot of utility OEM replacements for the Ranger HD, almost all are for the RZR. I ride at the farm here in Texas, mostly utility riding. I have a metal roof, front replacement bumper, metal rear bumper
Below are my questions:

-prc member recomendations (experience)?
-best place to purchase ?
-best utility front shocks ?
-best brand for the money ?

Thanks In Advance,

Maybe someone else can confirm but I think the HDs are the same as the non HD with the only difference being the springs are heavier on the HD. You may want to just get replacement springs, which will not set you back very much. With it being bottomed out just sitting that will be the springs fault and not the shock. You can also get heavier springs from places like King, Racertec and Highlifter. You can spend a lot more and get shocks from several companies with heavier springs and make you machine ride better far better than it did new. If you confirm that the shocks are the same as the standard and only the spring is heavier and I will sell you my the front shocks from my machine cheap and you can get heavier springs. One of mine does have a busted bump stop in it though, but that can be replaced too.

Front Springs and Shocks are the same for both HD and non HD (2009).
Polaris part #s
Shocks - 7043394 apprx $100 ea.
Springs - 7043402-385 (color- silver, #160lb.) apprx $45 ea.

Purchase - FixMyToys.com a site sponsor, and all around great people.

The bump stops can be replaced, I would purchase polyurethane stops.

yep, if you notice one of the wheels is farther into the wheelwell then it should be, odds are you've got a broken spring in that corner. The shock doesn't "hold up" anything, it just dampens the ride. You can buy an HD spring kit from your dealer for about 90 bucks. wouldn't consider that unless you have a cab on your machine. Stock ones would be the same otherwise.

I've got a half dozen factory height springs laying around here if you want a couple. (all of mine are upgraded to HD)

If you do not find a broken coil spring, then you need to keep looking until you find the problem.

Shocks wear out 2 ways- they start leaking oil out of the top, and they wear out internally. If the bumpstops get bad, the top of the shock rod can be removed and a new bumpstop installed. I can show you how to do this if you want.

Thank You All,
couple of questions then,

-ordering new shocks from fix my toys as recommended above

I should order the HD springs from them as well.....do they sell them?
Polyurethane bump stops.......do they sell them?

The HD came with the #160 lb spring from the factory. Is there a better one to install? Where should I buy that one from? Would a heavier spring be better? I do not have a full cab but do have a lot of extra weight with the roof, bumpers, winch and hunting seat in the rear.

Thank You Again,
jeramie

The Polaris HD springs for your 09', Polaris part#2877052 ( this part is no longer available, and does not have a substitution part number) and at this time, I do not have an answer for a replacement.
Call FixMyToys and talk to Brian, and ask if they have a replacement number, There is not one listed that I can find right now.
Your new shocks will come with new foam rubber bump stops, they are not as good as urethane, but at this time I would not spend the extra money. If you decide that you want them, I will get you the part #.
Keep in mind there are a lot of variables to figure in to help determine the spring rate that you need.

OK with all of that said, I did some checking, and here is what you will need.

Qty 2 Polaris shocks, Polaris part# 7043394
Qty 2 Polaris springs (2011 Crew) Polaris part# 7043691-067
