Hi everyone, new to the forum but hoping for some help. I have a 2018 XP 1000 EPS with just under 3500 miles. I have been trying to figure out a clunking noise that’s been going on since last fall, mostly when going 8-15mph over some lightly bumpy terrain. It sounds like something hitting the driver side floorboard, possibly when the suspension jumps on bumps. Not hearing on smooth surfaces mostly bumpy off road surfaces. I’ve replaced both from CV shafts, wheel bearings, lower ball joint on driver side and lower A-Arm bushings on front driver side, and stabilizer bar bushings. Everything seems tight. Possibly torsion bar linkage on stabilizer bar? Shock/struts? Appreciate any and all help to hopefully resolve this matter.

Have you checked the mounting of the front differential? The mounting bolts could be loose allowing it to move around and on some models there have been cases of the frame where it mounts being cracked and broken. A shock that has lost it's ability to dampen the suspension can make a bumping noise when it moves back to full extension. There may also be a rubber cushion at the top of the shock or the shock bushing are worn out.

Thanks for the reply. I just checked the bolts on the front gearcase and all 4 were tight. May have to explore shock bushings next as mine don’t appear to have a rubber cushion per the Polaris schematic. Aftermarket shock bushings appear to be my only option there? Maybe best to buy new shocks? Any suggestions there? Polaris wants $200/shock. See Rough Country has a set for $200.

The only suggestions I can come up with are to see if an auto parts store, a real one with good parts guys, perhaps a NAPA or old privately owned store, can help you find some that fit automotive shocks. If you have a machinist friend he can turn you some out of polyurethane on a lathe. I made some polyurethane bushings for a belt drive machine tool on my small lathe. I bought a polyurethane rod Amazon.com : Polyurethane Round Hollow PU Rod Yellow on Amazon, made a mandrel and machined bushings. Cost - about an hour of my time and $30.

Usually it’s the a arm bushings. Why did you only do 1 a arm and not all of them?

yes. And replace with garage products bushings.
Can you feel it in the floor boards? Does it clunk at full turn going from forward to reverse?

how many miles in the machine? If you’re up around 4k miles? They all need replacing front and rear.

I’m right at 3500 miles right now. It’s only noticeable when driving over smaller bumps around 8-15mph, driving straight. Pavement is fine. Don’t notice anything when turning. But yes, feels like you can feel in the floor and sounds like it’s driver side, which is where I’ve replaced the lower A-arm bushings. Almost like the shocks doing it maybe?

Thanks for sharing, I’ll start there. But sounds like I have the same issue…exact same machine, color and all, (not that that matters). I’ll pick up some bushings and get to it. I have a week long trip coming up so hope to at least get the fronts done before then. It will be a good test being in the terrain I’m going to since that’s where it was the worst last fall. Bushings still be bad even though it seems tight? The one I replaced I could see the A arm physically moving when I rocked the machine.

I own a 2025 XP 1000 that has made that sound also, more of a thump on the floor board. only at low speeds on smooth roads. made the sound while breaking it in a few times then stopped, happened again on the last ride. going to call the dealer, will post.

Thanks Nort! Yeah, I brought mine into the dealer last year about this same time, they said everything was tight and only found that a right rear wheel bearing was bad. They replaced and took it on a hunting trip, just for the noise to still be there. My closest dealership has a paved parking lot so can't really replicate the clunking since it's only on washboard type bumps or dirt trails with smaller pothole type terrain that it's really noticeable. Look forward to what you find out.
