Ranger came with stock wheels and steel rims. I just picked up some 2014 polaris aluminum wheels with new tires. These rims appear to have a taper similar to an automotive rim. My stock steel rims use a simple nut and washer. Is there a special Lugnuts that are needed for these rims? Also do I need to change out the studs as well to make these work? They do seem smaller in diameter than the holes in the polaris aluminum rims. Wheel Automotive tire Tire Auto part Rim

Did the new rims come from a 900? 900 XP studs are larger in diameter.

The wheel studs on your 800 are 3/8 x 24, the studs for the 900 (that those wheels came off of) are 12mm X 1.5.
The bolt pattern is the same. And yes the cast knobs do inhibit the wheels from going on.
The problem is the taper on the 3/8x24 lug nuts that you need to mount the aluminum wheels is a standard 60 degrees, but is not long enough due to the size, to safely seat into the wheel taper, and you will bottom out the lug nut before it seats. And even if you cut the wheel studs down, the pressure on the wheels will be directly on the wheel studs and taper, which will create a shear point and there is not enough contact between the lug nut and wheel taper.
IMO not a safe or good idea.

If you really want to mount them, you can purchase wheel spacers.

Yeah I really like em. Looked at Wertles thread and may do that. I am in the processing of milling out where the nubs are so that they will function as they were suppose to. So all the pressure won't be on the studs. So now I either need to replace the studs so I can find some lugs that will work with these rims, or just find some lugs to work. I have seen a few threads on this but I never saw where they mentioned the lugs.
