We got our new RZR in yesterday. Awesome machine, but we ran into a problem today. It was sitting out in front of the dealership this morning when we got about 1/2 inch or so of rain. When we went to move it this afternoon, it had a substansial amount of water in the clutch compartment. It had never been driven through water, so we know it had come from the rainfall. We found that water had come through the small drain hole in the front of the box, onto the air outlet from the clutch cover, then ran into the compartment. We used a plug which is Polaris part number 5432952 to put in the hole and seal it off. Im willing to bet this will be a service bulletin from Polaris pretty soon, but want to prevent this from happening to anyone else before Polaris comes out with it. It would be easy to fry a belt and ruin a good day of riding. That being said, the RZR is the real deal and is an absolute blast to ride. Good luck to all who were lucky enough to get one of the first ones, you wont be dissapointed.

Thanks for the info! Is this part (5432952) something that is a typical stock item for dealers? It's supposed to rain this weekend, and I want to ride...

Sounds like Gorilla Tape might be a need to buy for a temp fix if your local dealer does not have it!

I went out last night and looked at this situation. It does appear that water can indeed intrude into the PVT vent. It would have to happen through 'capillary action' (or liquid adhesion) but I can see how it can happen. For now, I cleaned up the drain hole area with alcohol and squirted some black silicone in there.

Sorry it took a while to get these up. Its been crazy here today trying to get everyone going for the long weekend. I dont really forsee this being a problem going through water, just when a lot of it collects in the box and wants to drain down through the hole. Like Ran said, the water drops onto the top of the vent tube then rolls down into the outlet hole and inot the compartment. We had the box completley off scoping the situation out,put it back on then took a hose and sprayed the box down and we could see the water running right in. Hope the pictures explain what we did better.

Neal, thanks for the info. I must say, I didn't know where you were talking about to start with. Now, after the pics, I see that you were talking about the bed area. I would still like to see a picture of how this gets into the clutch compartment. Is the fitting for the clutch breather not tight enough? Good find though, I am sure Polaris will be reading all these good pointers.

Bruce,

The water doesn't come in through any fitting. Its comes in the open end of the vent via liquid adhesion. In other words, as the water seeps through the drain hole it clings to the vent tube which is directly below the hole (with the opening of the vent facing the rear of the vehicle). Then as the water 'rolls' along the outside of the vent, some of it finds its way down through the opening and ultimately into the PVT compartment (at least that's the way I understand it)

Parking downhill, would lead to the "Capillary Action". However, parking uphill will prevent it. All the same, black silicon or a sufficient plug will suffice.
