So I have a little dilemma on picking out new tires for my 14 Ranger 900 Crew. I have already ordered the Outkast Full 3" lift, but now I am stuck with buying new tires. I am going with a 30" tire in any tire I get.

I thought that I wanted the Moto MTC's, but then found out that they only come in a 16" wheel for the 30's, well that limits me to wheels that I can get. Then I thought that I wanted Roctane XD's, but I like the look of the MTC's better and the advantage they would have in the mud. So with the mud advantage stuck in my head, I started looking at mud tires. Well then I started to notice how heavy they were compared to the MTC or Roctane's. I know I will sacrifice some power with the more weight, but what I am unsure of is if the added weight will have a direct effect on how long the axle's are going to last. I know the stock ones will have to be replaced eventually with aftermarket ones, but I want to make sure that I am not getting myself into the situation that breaking axles are going to be on going because of this.

So if anyone could help me out with this I would appreciate it, also if you have a recommendation on what mud tire would be the best for all around I would appreciate that as well.

I went through the same process you are going through. My machine runs on all kinds of surfaces, from sandy creeks to serious mud and wet fields down south where I live to the rocky trails of east Tennessee, along with a good bit of asphalt running. I saw one of our forum members was running Super Swamper LTBs and, since I am an old school mud truck guy, I got to thinking why not, they were my favorite tire to run on my old Toyota years ago. Well I let me tell you, I could not be more pleased with my decision! They do GREAT in everything. Sand would be their weak point but still do surprisingly good in that. They may not do as good deep mud as a Terminator, Outlaw or Silverback but they weigh less (my 31s weigh 47 pounds) and I have been able to go anywhere the previously mentioned tires go without worry of a large spinning lug grabbing and breaking something. That gives me a little more room for fun with the skinny pedal too. Now move to hard surfaces of any type and the Swampers will run off and leave them. On my last TN trip, there was 2 brand new Can-ams, one a 1000 Commander with 31" Outlaw 2s and the other a 1000 Maverick with 32" Terminators, Anywhere we could get up to speed I would leave them because those tires are not stable and controllable like the Swampers were on steep, wet rocky trails or on wide loose gravel roads. The Swampers run much smoother on asphalt than my stock PXTs did. After a good 500 miles, lots of them asphalt, they are showing no wear at all. I run beadlocks so I can run 3 to 4 PSI air pressure to overcome the stiff sidewalls and that works like a charm. Others run them on regular rims with more air and still report good results. So in short, do not be afraid to run an LT truck tire, they work.

Although I don't consider them a "mud tire", the Roctanes do very well in the mud......much better than the Bighorns I have always ran. The only thing I did NOT like about them is the lack of a 12" wide for the rear in the 30" height. Still, I have not noticed a loss of traction with only having a 10" wide on the rear......and I can rotate them for even wear.

Mudlites ride smooth give good traction. One of their big pluses is their light weight. There downfall is they wear fast on hard surfaces and are flat prone because of their thin wall lightweight construction.

Obviously they will accelerate wear "some", but not horribly. I think more comes from the conditions.....such as riding in sandy mud a lot.

When they go, replace them with units from All Balls Racing......better and cheaper than OEM.

One trick I learned is to lift the boots on the tie rod ends and fill them half (not completely) full of grease using a pencil tip attachment for the gun, Do that about twice a year (depending on how much you ride) and they will last almost indefinitely. I was going through tie rod ends every 100 hours until I discovered that trick.

I had the Mudlite XXL's and dumped them after one ride. Those things would rattle my teeth on hard pack at 10# of pressure, AND.....they weren't true 30's. Pulled up next to my buddy running 28" Swamplites and his were taller. One of the other problems I saw was the huge voids between the lugs, perfect for having a rock slice or puncture. Also, having a crew like me, you need to consider sidewall strength because of weight. I was going to go with the Interco Swamplites but have seen a lot of folks up here with damaged sidewalls.

But....that's just my 2 cents.

These are actually what I'm looking at for my second set of tires for hardpack/hunting, they are 15" but a great price.

Thanks for that tip Jerry
I will remember that.

Well decided to go with the 30x10r16 MotoMTC's on 16x7 MSA M22 Enduro's. They should be here today and my 3" Full Oukast kit should be here Monday. Now to see if I can find the time to get it all on before I leave on our cruise March 7th.
