Hello all. I am looking into new tires and rims.
A few questions for you guys.
1. Do I stay with 12" rims or go 14" ?
I would like to go a bit taller. I do not plan on lifting my ranger
I would also like to go wider in from and rear, 1" wider

The next question is bighorns or rip saw?
I have read some reviews and both seem to be good.
I use my ranger mostly for outfitting. Don't haul much more than 500 lbs

Thank you all.

If you like the Bighorns, I would really consider the Roctanes or the Blackwater Evolution. They are both 8 ply versus the 6 ply bighorns. Bighorns are a great tire but alot of people complain of having flats with the weaker sidewalls. I myself went with the EFX Motoclaw because they are DOT approved so I could be street legal. Also you can go up to 27" without any lift or other mods.

Most people here like the 14 inch wheels for a better selection of tires and they give more clearance inside the wheel to help keep rocks from getting wedged between the caliper.

Also. Would you anyone go with 27x11x14 for front and rear ? Would there be enough clearance and would they rub at all?

If you plan on using chains at any time make sure you account for the extra clearance in your tire size. The 12"/14" debate has a lot to do with what they are used for. If you're doing a lot of offroad type driving then 12" is better and if it's higher speed trail riding then 14". I went with one size tire all the way around and couldn't be happier. I'm running 26x11x12 EFX Motoclaws on all 4 wheels. I do run chains on all 4 and if they get a little loose they hit the front wheel well.

Thank you. That info is helpful. I don't plan on running chains as of yet. If I were to I would probably put them on stock wheels and leave them on the wheels. I'm considering the 14" rims for clearance inside the wheel for debris. I am now leaning toward the roctane. Wondering if they are a directional tire? Would probably get 5 of them to have a spare.

One thing I did, and will do here on out on any of my utv's, is go with beadlocks on my rims. Not necessary for everything, but for some reason when I switched from an atv to a sxs, I spent a bunch of time breaking down tires to clean the mud out of the beads so they wouldn't leak and it seemed (can't prove it) like the 14" rims were worse than the 12" in that situation. If you don't do mud, probably not a huge deal. I do more mud than not, so it was worth the few extra bucks for me.

I know last spring I was anxious to go for a ride on my new 800. There was still patches of snow here and there and the frost was coming out of the ground. I got into some mud pretty good. When I got home to presser wash the Ranger. I noticed stones lodged between the inner area of the 12" rim. The reading more info here. The 14" wheel allows more room in the inner area. So my next tires and wheels..will be 14" or 15" .
