Are they true beadlocks or just simulators? The second picture shows the tire mounted w/o the lock.

It is exactly as pictured.
If it is as pictured in the 2nd photo, it is NOT a beadlock.

A beadlock traps the tire bead between the inner and outer ring(s) when mounted and inflated.

So the question is: Does this kit trap the tire bead between the inner and outer ring?

A true beadlock will pinch the outer tire bead. (the exceptions are HMMWV, Humvee, and Staun) The pinching of the outer bead locks it to the rim so it doesn't pop off inward. Most of the time the outside bead pops off, the inside usually doesn't.

There are weld-on beadlocks for full size trucks. They weld onto the bead, alot like these. Except they can't have the holes and must be completely welded. Then the bead is pinched between the newly welded ring and the bolt on ring. Yes, your wheels will be wider.

No matter what you call them they look like they would be very suitable for most trail riders and mudders.

I have been in lots of HS races with sport quads, back in the day when I couldn't afford real bead locks so I simply did without. I never once had a problem with a tire coming off a bead unless I gashed it and it tore the tire to smithereens.

We would do a very similar thing with our wheels for the utility races, this reinforcing ring helped maintain the wheels round integrity after smacking a big log, stump or rock at 35 mph.

I like how you placed the scallops in the inner part. Makes it a little easier to get the mud and grave out which is my biggest complaint with any beadlocks.

I think most people dish out the big money for a true beadlock for the bling factor while never using them for their true intentions. I have to admit that they do attract attention but I think these "faux" beadlocks are the ticket for those who have a budget but want the look and still provide some positive functionality.
