Overheated while testing heater install. Are there any steps to follow?

I overheated after burping my antifreeze while installing the oem heater. There must have been another air pocket. It was stable for some time then it spiked suddenly to 250F and shut down.
It only happened once but took awhile to cool down from 250F. The service manual calls this engine protection at this temp. But some other posts make me wonder if I need to change my oil now.
I called service at my dealer and said I'm fine but I question it being a shitty answer (bad dealer.)

Is there anything else I should be checking or replacing after an overheat like this?

Net, if you have now bled the cooling system of ALL the air, unless you ran the engine at that temp for a considerable amount of time and the engine is running eratically, I'd say you are in the clear..

I put it in park when I noticed it at 230F but it jumped to 250F fast and shut itself off. I also noticed the radiator fan doesnt run without the engine being started, so it takes a long while before burping and what not.

I wouldn't be concerned with the oil, oil temps were likely higher then water temps, but most high quality full-synthetic oils don't start to break down rapidly until they hit 400F (ex. Royal Purple which is on the low side) to 450F (Mobil 1 which is typically the high side). Unless you think the oil temp hit 350+ I wouldn't be concerned.

If you still need to remove air from the cooling system, try parking your rig on a fairly steep hill, nose up. Fill fluid reservoir, run for a few minutes, repeat. Good luck.:congratulatory::congratulatory:

Hey All, this is a Great Forum. Friends Ranger spiked to 240degrees several times most during idle, each time spewing antifreeze out reservoir, turned key to off position and took to mechanic. Grass seeds clogged radiator fins bad. Mechanic power washed fins straight on not to bend any. Found temp gauge (also act as safe switch for engine) plastic melted apart, was replaced. Inspected water pump plastic impeller, minor effects, replaced for good measure. Refilled antifreeze, burped, good to go. Dang seeds

If you have to open the water pump up again there is a replacement aluminum impeller you can get so you do not have to worry about it getting damaged in this type of situation.
