I was starting to hear a bit of a click going down the trail, so I checked the front axles and one side seemed to have quite a bit of play in it, so I ordered a replacement. The axle is coming in today, so I lifted the Ranger and took the tire off to get to work on it and I noticed the play I had saw wasn't coming from the joints on the axle at all, but it seems to be coming from the differential itself. Is this amount of play normal? I guess what I am hearing could be coming from some place else.

Litz, that looks and sounds to be wear on the drive hubs and axle splines. Pretty common after 2008 and there is nothing you can do except wait till it strips out and then replace the hubs and axles. Then the clock starts running again. Make sure the axle droop does not allow the cv boots to rip on the a-arm tabs. Hit the tabs with a grinder to create some clearance if need be.
